RenaissanceMan 04-30-2003, 10:59 PM here's my '72tii.... it's been featured in 3 publications so far. i love it as much as my M3, but for different reasons... it's like driving a go cart.
pretty interesting how many of us M3 guys are also '02 fans. :D

steve k. 05-01-2003, 12:32 PM nice looking '02!
interesting that you removed the top trim, but left the trim on the bottom. Usually people do it the other way.

Since you are so interested in publications of your tii, what exactly did you do to make your car unique? I've spent extensive time working on my 02 and other BMWs from this era. Having them printed in some magazine was never a concern. What made you decide to build a car that would be sought after by Magazine's? I like the idea of educating 'would-be' bimmerheads about the car that brought BMW to the States by getting Mag's to print info on it.
Or buy it that way?
Cheers!:D

:dunno
okay, i'm going to assume your remark wasn't meant to be demeaning and that you are just curious about the car's coverage... :) i never set out to get the car in magazines. i'm just proud of the fact that it has. it just happened to be photographed by some contributors on their own, and they did with it what they wanted. i don't buy or drive cars so that i can get them published. i would imagine the car has gained notice simply because of its unique paint job. you can't really tell from the pictures, but the inka basecoat is covered by a glasurit heavy metallic pearl coat. it definitely catches your eye when seen in person. i purchased my car as an unfinished project that the p.o. grew tired of. the body and paintwork had already been completed when i bought the car. i had to complete the restoration and essentially put the car back together.

:95 No, I have no intention on being demeaning over the Internet. I'll save that for "ricers" that still live with their Mom. I was just curious to know if it was a planned thing. 02 people are usually unique and set apart from other Bimmerheads, so I wanted to hear your story. I assumed since you made sure to post that your car had been made public...3 times...you may have had some sort of "master plan".
But 'yes', a nice paint job on a classic car would turn heads. I am glad to see such a nice example of the tii has been made public. People really deserve to know about these cars. 2002s were way before their time and are still appreciated the world over. Plus, it is Inka...with Pearl
Cheers!
ps - email and the internet is somewhat 2 dimensional, sorry if my post was to the point and seemingly blunt. No harm intended.
steve k. 05-01-2003, 03:10 PM Knowing Joe personally i can guarantee that the post was not intended to be demeaning. So what's under the hood of the car? Stock Tii? Or was something doen to the car? pictures of interior?
thanks,
steve

joe, no need to apologize. i was pretty sure that's not what you were implying.... i just wanted to make sure. :stickoutt that's the problem with written messages, etc... thanks for clarifying, regardless. :D i appreciate it. (i'm sorry if i came across as an oversensitive bastard.... :biglaughb )
steve k:
the engine is still completely stock. the car has approx. 93,000 miles on it, and the engine and injection system had been gone through so it's in a pretty solid state of tune right now. i understand that when the kugelfischer is working, it's solid as a rock, but when they're out of whack they require a real artist to correct them... sometimes i fantasize about putting an e30 m3 engine in there, but the money pit has been dug plenty deep enough for now. i'll see if i can dig up some interior pics.

if you do decide to pit an s14 into a 2002, don't do it with a Tii. those cars were very special. Do it to a standard '02. Good luck with your car!.

I totally agree with Steve on this one. An S14 motor may be faster, but it would take away from the tii's value. Perhaps purchasing another 02 and dropping the motor in that one is a better route. This is of course if money is not an issue and you have $5000+ for an EVO S14 motor.
Or you are Dr. Frankenstein like my friend Steve K. and just happen to come across a started or somewhat finished project. His cars are SO trick and true. :evil2
Cheers!
:b_blue:
steve k. 05-01-2003, 05:26 PM thanks Joe!
one was someone else project and the other one is all mine. getting a new motor for the '02 in June! Still keeping the motor stock, and playing with induction and exhaust. hopping to get 120 to 130 hp at the rear wheels :)

yeah, you guys are probably right. it would be nice to have another '02 one day to turn into a monster... :devillook
as for now, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.'
Flip_Side_the_Pint 05-03-2003, 09:18 AM aww man now I want a 2002 even more now....:embarrasm  :)

Sweet, I use to have an E21. It was one of my first car projects, Alpinas, Custom paint, Suspension, 5spd, LSD, Interior and a great 78 2.0 motor. That car seemed to go forever and was as solid as a rock. Drove it daily for three years. The day I sold it the buyer wanted to come pick it up the next day. I drove it home and decided to have my last hurrah!! I blew the motor after driving 100+mph for some ten miles. The buyer came over the next night to pick up the car and I explained the motor being blown. He looked at me and then looked my beautiful E21 and said, "That's okay, I'll just have the motor rebuilt. Besides the rims are worth more than the motor." He took the car for $500 less than what we agreed on. :buttrock
What a great car the E21. I wish I still had it, it would be my daily driver for sure.
MattE21 05-31-2003, 04:27 AM great story.
ill post up pics of my car completed withrims and new bbs spoiler/euro bumpers/rims in august
