A few days ago I put a set of 3.91's in my M3 so now I have this final drive laying around and I want it gone! The differential has about 125K on it and is still like butter. The tag on the back is pretty much unreadable (can't see anything in pictures) but I assure you that you're getting a 3.23 LSD. You'll have to re-use your halfshaft flanges (takes literally 5 minutes to pop them out and move them over). This is a great upgrade for any non-m car or even a 5-spd M3 looking for better acceleration.

Since shipping is going to be expensive on it I'm asking $500 OBO shipped anywhere in the continental US.

As you can see, the tag is unreadable to a camera.

I thought 3.23 was from 96-99 5-sp M3s and the 3.38 was from the 95-99 auto M3s?

Is this correct? :dunno

EDIT*** Oops, looks like the 95 autos had the 3.23, and so did the LTW. I'll leave the comment in here just in case anyone else thought the same thing. Sorry to doubt you. ;)

the automatic M3's from 96-98 came with it.
The manuals of those years had a 3.23

Its a 4 bolt input flange. And 400 shipped is losing a lot of money on this thing.

I could do $425 + shipping.

It might have 125k but its still smooth as butter, this car was babied all its life, I'm the second owner and the original owner was a 60 year old lady. This diff is in perfect mechanical condition.

If you don't have the money for it thats cool. But I'm not giving it away.

While I totally understand you wanting to get a certain amount for your diff, as a potential buyer, from what I see in the photos and from what you tell me the mileage is (125K), it just doesn't LOOK to be worth what you're asking.

It may very well be "butter" on the inside, but I can't see the inside. I can only see the outside, and the outside looks just like what I would expect a diff with 125k on it to look like, and one that's spent plenty of time in harsh winter conditions at that (just like the kind of harsh road conditions that you would expect in Nebraska in January or February, which, based on your profile, is where this particular diff probably spent a considerable amount of time).

Considering that you originally listed it waaaay back in June, and it's now August, and it's still for sale despite several reasonable offers, maybe you should consider accepting one of them?

Please don't get me wrong -- it's your sale, but that's just it -- a sale. While you may think your diff is worth some particular value, it seems as though the rest of us have a different opinion as to what that value is. And in this specific situation, it's the buyer's version of what that value is that counts: it's not worth whatever you think someone should pay you for it -- it's only worth whatever someone is willing to pay you for it.

Well, let me know if you're willing to come down off your asking price.

Thanks

Then go find one that "looks" okay, and spend even more money. And probably get one that has been tracked and abused, and not in great mechanical condition.

The car as been driven in the snow probably twice in its entire life. I keep it garaged.

Considering that you originally listed it waaaay back in June, and it's now August, and it's still for sale despite several reasonable offers, maybe you should consider accepting one of them?

Its still for sale because the logistics of my schedule didn't cooperate with the timeframe a few buyers that have offered to purchase for the asking price didn't match up. They eventually ended up moving on because I was busy at the time and couldn't get around to getting the thing boxed up and get a shipping quote for them in the time they were willing to wait.

Please don't get me wrong -- it's your sale, but that's just it -- a sale. While you may think your diff is worth some particular value, it seems as though the rest of us have a different opinion as to what that value is.

Then why waste your time posting a lengthy reply to something you have no intention of purchasing for the asking price? Do you go into a store in a Mall, or Walmart, or BMW and tell them that you don't want to pay the price listed because its more important that you pay what you think its worth? Didn't think so.

Thanks for looking though.

I would. Called negotiating. Have had Wal-Mart price match. Definately wouldn't pay list for anything on a dealer lot (except Saturn).

What you are asking doesn't seem unreasonable to me, although not a bargain. Hard to make that 3.91 a free mod. So here is your bump.

I'm not trying to make the 3.91's a free mod. I have a Diffsonline diff at 40% lockup. Not anywhere close to $500 shipped.

What the low-ballers fail to realize is that they're only paying about $400 for a 3.91 rear end, which is a good price. But they overlook the fact that it weighs 75lbs and will cost damn near 100 bucks to package and ship.

I'm also in no rush to get rid of this diff either, and I'm certainly not strapped for cash. So I'll stick it out until somebody is serious about it. I've had a few serious buyers, but my schedule didn't accommodate.

Does noone ever look into DHL for shipping?

From Baltimore (21250 - picked random zip code) to my location in Raleigh NC, it can be shipped for $21. $25 PICKED UP from your place. And just under $30 picked up with a $400 insurance value.
(based on a 75lb shipping weight and a 24"x24"x24" shipping box)

From Baltimore to California it can be shipped for under $50.

just an FYI.

Fair enough - I got those numbers straight off the DHL website.
If you are in the middle-of-nowhere then perhaps it would be more expensive to ship.

Not trying to rain on your sale - just trying to help you, and potential buyers out there, with shipping costs. Being able to lower shipping helps you move things quicker.
I've found DHL to be considerable cheaper than fedex or ups.

I hear ya. No worries. I live in Omaha, not exactly the middle of nowhere. But DHL isn't really big around here so maybe thats why? I dunno.
