I'm looking at new tires ASAP. So far I have had Continental ContiSports, Bridgestone RS730s and currently Toyo T1-S. All three brands/models of tires I have been very dissapointed with their life. (read: approximately 15k miles on a set before I'm at the wear bars)

The Continentals came on the car, the Bridgestones I paid about 200 a piece for and the Toyo's were 175.

I noticed that the Kumho 711 are only $56 on tirerack and was wondering if anyone had them and what their experiences were. The reviews on tirerack for these tires are very mixed.

I do almost all city (read: bad traffic) driving and I'm in Atlanta so snow is of no concern. I just want something that is cheap if they are only going to last me a year.

Thanks.

Rob, The tire will last longer but not give the handling of the other tires. It depends on what you are looking for out of the tire.
If handling is not a concern then they would be fine.
Let me know if I can help.

Jim... on a scale of 1 to 10 how would the handling of these various tires rate (in your opionion)

Bridgestone RE730
Toyo T1-S
Kuhmo 711

also would you suggest something else that would either last longer that my previous tires or would cost considerably less yet handle similar.

Rob...................I have the Kumho's on the Daughter's Neon. They're just kind of okay but nothing great (except cheap). Looks like they'll last a while though. Have 20K on them now.

Take a look at the Yokohama ES100's. $102 each at Jim's store. I have them on my 95 M3 and really like them.

The wet traction is outstanding (it rains it Texas almost as much as Atlanta) and the dry traction is very good. They should last alot longer than what you've experienced based on the high treadware rating.

For outstanding dry traction I have the othe type of Kumho's (V700's) but only use them for a few minutes on Sundays (grin).

I believe that kumho will shake and be unstable at high speeds:nono

You call 15k on a set of tires dissapointing? Those are nice figures considering I only got about 4.5k on my rear 255/35/18 s-o3's last time around. lol.

Anyhow, my girlfriend has a set of those 711's on her car (audi A4 1.8t quattro). They're holding up well, but it's too soon to say. the grip is decent for a $70 tire.
