I'm wondering on what is the best way to get a nice start off the line in a rwd? fwd? and awd?

i thought in one of them you don't slam on gas (i think AWD) but rather start off slow then punch it or something...i'm just wondering what methods should be taken and why? thanks.

Check out Silverstreak's thread parked at the top of this forum. I don't imagine each car would be that different, it would just vary by more or less grip given the setup.

Yeah, each car is different. In general, with lots of power and torque and no much weight, you can't just drop the clutch and smash the gas, you will sit there and spin.

Check out the launch tips parked at the top of this forum...

I would definately agree with what has been said already.

The basic take home key is Modulation is king of launch. Very few cars will get best times of indiscriminately mashing the throttle.

Every car is dependant on its drive train, weight balance, modifications, environmental temps, track conditions, etc.
You have to play until you find your car's "sweet spot".

In general FWD cars can be the trickiest to find the sweet spot in. Naturally, as the car leaves the line, the weight is pulled away from the tires that need the most traction.

This is what gives RWD cars a natural advantage. As you launch, it loads the traction wheels with even more weight, adding more usable contact patch.

And AWD, what a blessing and a curse. With the exception of the added weight of the hardware, you can basically have it all with this set up. Of course the curse is that you have significantly more abuse with maximizing your launch with this design. I have been told by others that the best launch for my wife's S4 is to hold the tach at 5500 and drop the clutch. This may sound impressive, but the smells that result such a launch make me nauseous thinking about how much I paid for this car, and have kept me (and hopefully the wife) from ever finding the quickest launch off the line. BUT, anyone that has witnessed a Speedvision WC GT race (esp. in person!) can't argue with the results when you see Galati take off.

My advice is to read up on some pointers, find a deserted road and start practicing. If you are really serious, look around for a cheap used G-tech to test yourself.

Good luck
