Anyone have the RE clutch/flywheel setup on a 5spd tranny? I'm considering buying one and would love a ride/drive with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the full Rogue setup, but unfortunatley wont have my M3 back up in NJ with me until early July likely.

I can tell you that when I installed it and added Royal Purple to the trans the setup really is silent. The time that I most notice the noise is when its really warm out and I have the car idling with the AC on (clutch out). I had it installed for 3 days before ever noticing the rattle (I rarely, if ever, release the clutch when sitting in traffic or at a light).

I was taking pictures outside the car, with the AC on 3, and the car running. Inside the car its really unnoticeable with the windows up and not bad at all with the windows down.

Thanks, I'm not so much conerned about noise as I am clutch feel...is it light? little heavy? Where's engagement point? I've only felt it on a 6spd.

Compared to stock its slightly heavier, as far as I remember (its been 2 years and I have more recently gotten used to the super-heavy clutch in my turbo 332). Reusing the M3 slave definitely serves to keep the pressure similar to stock (unlike the UUC M5 setups where keeping the M3 slave makes the pedal feel SUPER light).

The clutch engages lower to the floor than your stock unit will as a result of wear on your stock unit. My OEM clutch had ~30k miles on it (and still looked/felt mint) and the Rogue engages at about the same point as it did...it isnt audi-high, nor crazy-low.

You don't remember the feel? :stickoutt It's the same with the 5 speed or 6 speed box. The pedal effort felt the same to me since it still uses an OEM flywheel.

Rich is dead-on about the low engagement...which for some odd reason people weren't used to when they drove my car. :dunno All it will take is a little getting used to.

I couldn't be happier with it...I just wish it would hold the power that I plan on pushing. I would hate to have the car on the dyno getting tuned and then have the clutch slip. :paranoid:

It was implied to me that it might feel different on the 5spd....I remember being awful on yours or shall I now say mine?!? :stickoutt

I'd hate to see it start slipping as well so I'll just have to take it off your hands k :D

I have a Rogue Flywheel and using a custom RE clutch and Sachs HD pressure plate, you're welcome to meet up and play with it if you'd like.

I don't have any chatter, even with the AC on, I never paid attention to that but I noticed it yesterday while idling the car at a gas station....it's just quiet. :)

the pedal feel is positive, you know exactly where the pickup is as it's intuitive, there is no guessing as with a super light pedal feel.

Well it seems you guys are all extremely happy with your RE choice, I look forward to installing mine in the coming weeks.

I'm just checking out various components that I might want to order ahead of time and replace while I'm in there.

I usually change out my pivot pin when changing out the clutch. depending on how many miles are on the car, it's probably not a bad idea to change the clutch fork either.

as usual, change out the throw out bearing and clutch slave with every clutch change for cheap insurance.

Anything else out of this list you deem appropriate? For what it's worth I just did my Guibo and tranny mounts.

Spoken like somebody who has never had to daily drive a car that sounds like a diesel from the late 70's/early 80's.

Seriously...you WILL care about the noise.

Selector shaft seal (BMW part # 23 12 1 282 394)
Output shaft seal (BMW part # 23 11 1 224 779) <- I've never seen these leak but if yours is, change it.
Input shaft seal (BMW part # 23 21 1 224 820)
Rear main crankshaft seal (BMW part # 11 21 1 720 310?????) <- I can't believe I forgot this part, change it!
Release Fork pivot pin (BMW part # 21 51 1 223 328)
Spring clip for release fork (BMW part # 21 51 1 223 234)
Pilot bearing (BMW part # ?????) <- probably supplied with your clutch kit, double check.
Rear exhaust hanger(s) (BMW part # 18 21 1 723 101) <- if they are original, then they are most likely worn/torn.
ATF [required if replacing transmission seals] <- the trans is out, now is a great time to change the fluid - Royal Purple Synchromax!
Motor oil and filter [required if replacing rear main seal]

I plan on ordering a few more new guibo bolts/nuts just incase and the 6 header bolts as well.

^^^ I added notes as I felt appropriate. Change the rear main seal, this PITA part is only accessible with the transmission off. you may also want to replace some of your shift selector bushings as well as the transmission fluid at this time since the gearbox is going to be out.

Looks like I'm going to be ordering some parts!

-Mmm no thought on ordering an extra bitch clip?

-Rear main crankshaft seal, this is probably a stupid question, but since it makes note of the motor oil and filter I assume thats the normal oil change materials?

-As for the pilot bearing, since the kit is from a good friend I suspect he already used it and I should probably order another one.

-Tranny fluid was just done like 10k ago so not too concerned there.

This is good stuff.

Honestly I've been in cars w/ the noise and it doesn't really bother me. That aside thank god for the Sentra taking over the daily duties. :D Supposedly this setup is really pretty quiet, guess we'll see!

bitch clip - I don't see why you'd have to change it from doing a clutch swap. it can't be more then a few cents, so if you want, go for it.

rear main seal is one of those things that are basically free when the flywheel and transmission are off since it's right there in front of you. it'd be foolish to not change it out now, even if it wasn't leaking. yes on the normal oil change materials, oil & filter.

buy a new pilot/throwout bearing, they're made of plastic so throwing a new one in is cheap insurance.

good luck with the swap.

I have a JB Racing / RE Flywheel and Sachs setup in the race car. Stock pedal feel remains unlike the other setups on the market which is the biggest plus imo

Wasiq doesn't drive stick, he drives T-Shifter.

He does drive stick. He just doesn't a clutch very well, ie destroys them in 3 miles, and once he gets going he tends to hit curbs with his genetic tendency to drive into buildings.:stickoutt
