View Full Version : Fun club racer on eBay... ;) onasled 06-12-2007, 05:58 PM http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-GTR-001-V8-2002-M3-Rolex-spares-pacage-look_W0QQitemZ260127889435QQihZ016QQcategoryZ98064 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem dcvee 06-12-2007, 06:17 PM http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-GTR-001-V8-2002-M3-Rolex-spares-pacage-look_W0QQitemZ260127889435QQihZ016QQcategoryZ98064 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Eh. Doesn't take paypal. I'm out. :D S.Lang 06-12-2007, 06:22 PM You know, those cars are great. Right up until you have to pay for custom fabrication on spares. Then, not so great. Well, I guess it depends on your financial situation! :) maxxfish 06-12-2007, 06:25 PM :cashwalle Sweet. Not to digress too much, but with the E92 M3 coming out shortly, do you think that the E46 M3 will soon become the standard for BMW-based club racecars? The prices are a little stagnant (high) right now because of the lack of new inventory, but they will drop when new car buyers have the E92 available. With the E46 M3 having more power out of the box, adding lightness is the big factor to a power-to-weight series like NASA GTS. I know I've much rather have a relatively stock car as opposed to a car that has had every last bit of power squeezed out of it (like a modded S14 or S50). Thoughts? Steve J. 06-12-2007, 06:33 PM All I want are the rear trailing arms! Was this Alvis's car, or am I thinking of another car? Volcom8190 06-12-2007, 06:33 PM i wonder if its street legal...:buttrock:devillook Rud 06-12-2007, 06:35 PM Was this Alvis's car, or am I thinking of another car? Yes, mentions that in the text. Needs a Jaffster knob. :D ///M3Matt 06-12-2007, 06:37 PM Yea, that was Danny's car. That thing passed me on the straight at Summit like I was going backwards mcclaskz 06-12-2007, 07:25 PM I loved getting passed by that thing! Danny dubbed it, "The Beast". Steve J. 06-12-2007, 07:48 PM Ah, ok, it was hard to read the big paragraph blurb, got it. Did someone buy it and is reselling it, or is it being sold from his prior ownership? Its one of the last GTR chassis' left. I only know of one private one for sale in the US, if anyone is interested :) Awesome deal, S54 powered, easy to run in club racing, same cost as a top CM car, but its arrive and drive. It is an early variation though, its got the early GTR cage, not many did. It was changed fairly quickly I think to a superior design that was on the most recent GTR chassis. Main differences were in the rear, and how the suspension/drivetrain were tied into the cage. RJ valentine has one of the other gtr chassis, but I think its on permanent display, I don't think he's had it out for a while. Yes, mentions that in the text. Needs a Jaffster knob. :D And yes...it definitely would need a TC Design/ Jaffster knob, most likely a custom one though ;) If you look close, or have seen hewland shift knobs in person, they have some similarities to the Tc/Jaffster knob...notice the round top and lower "shelf." http://i4.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/a4/77/73a5_12.JPG mcclaskz 06-12-2007, 10:07 PM I believe his family is selling it. Steve J. 06-12-2007, 10:11 PM Gotcha. I also saw the same seller was selling a B6 S4 with pictures next to the GTR. Any ideas on what price they are interested in for a "buy it now" cash deal? mcclaskz 06-12-2007, 10:17 PM No idea. I think at one point he was thinking of racing the S4 in Rolex Cup/Koni but went another route. Fair 06-12-2007, 10:19 PM Nice. V8 BMWs are kewl, but that one seems a tad shy on the displacement... :D Steve J. 06-12-2007, 10:33 PM Actually, GTR wise its bigger than the norm. mcclaskz 06-14-2007, 01:04 PM I put up a classified ad for this car in the classified-track section at the bequest of a friend helping Danny's family sell the car. solospeed 06-14-2007, 01:07 PM I'd have to make that just barely street legal and register it WOW BETO 06-14-2007, 01:28 PM WOW, just WOW!! If I had the money, I'll get it, but then again custom made parts will make that car very expensive to crash/brake. What's the top speed on that beast? Isn't there a BMW V8 coming soon? B.Watts 06-14-2007, 01:34 PM but then again custom made parts will make that car very expensive to crash/brake. It looks to come with a lot of spares though. The rear trailing arms would be REALLY hard to replace, but the pictures seem to show a few spares for those. Isn't there a BMW V8 coming soon? You mean a V8 M3? There are plenty of BMW V8's already. ;) BETO 06-14-2007, 01:40 PM No, the new M3 coming soon has a V8, over 400hp, right? B.Watts 06-14-2007, 01:42 PM No, the new M3 coming soon has a V8, over 400hp, right? That's what I was asking... And yes, the new M3 will have a V8. salvia.D 06-14-2007, 03:26 PM where would a car like this run in CR?? and does CR see many passed down GTR and GT spec cars? gobuffs 06-14-2007, 03:50 PM Super Mod- all ex Pro cars go there. Yes there are a few out there, but they aren't plentiful. I know Gil Caravantes ran one a few years ago but was bored b/c he had nobody to race...so he bought a JP E30 M3. dmwhite 06-14-2007, 04:02 PM Super Mod- all ex Pro cars go there. plenty of ex-Pro cars run in mod class... B.Watts 06-14-2007, 04:33 PM Super Mod- all ex Pro cars go there. The rules were changed with regards to that a few years ago. It now makes no difference whether a car has been raced in a Pro series with regards to classing. gobuffs 06-14-2007, 04:34 PM Musta changed the rules...last I looked at ex Pro cars were in SM. B.Watts 06-14-2007, 05:06 PM Musta changed the rules...last I looked at ex Pro cars were in SM. I just looked through the CR archives...2001 was the last set of rules that required all Pro cars to run in SM. Steve J. 06-14-2007, 05:47 PM And Motorsport chassis are now fully legal in Mod class, so no problem there either. Has there ever been a SM win overall nationally? With all these pro cars now hitting the Clubracing circuits (WCGT, Rolex, ALMS, European, etc) its interesting that there are not more Sm cars dominating. gobuffs 06-14-2007, 05:52 PM Man...01? I think Steve you meant Motosport chassis ARE legal in Mod. Gil Carvantes won an overall at TWS a few years ago during the first National Challenege Race IIRC. Steve J. 06-14-2007, 05:57 PM Thanks, edited...definitely meant NOW not NOT :) phredden 06-14-2007, 10:32 PM Nevertheless, not a "momenteum car" as such.... Steve J. 06-14-2007, 10:58 PM Nevertheless, not a "momenteum car" as such.... Where'd that comment come from? lol Anyways, looks like there were two fake bids by "bidder 1" and "bidder 2" I doubt they were real bids, only increments of $100... Probably not even worth putting it on ebay, just think of a cash up front price, and advertise in the community, much better off. Steve J. 06-17-2007, 10:32 AM So the bid is upto $150.1k, who has been bidding? rmm3 06-17-2007, 10:54 AM I bid a couple times...I was hoping it would go cheap! :) Oh well I guess it was a pipe dream at the price I was willing to pay. I hope it stays here in the states and someone keeps it around in club racing. -Rick So the bid is upto $150.1k, who has been bidding? Steve J. 06-17-2007, 12:27 PM I hate this new Anonymous Bidder security thing, you can't see who bid :) gobuffs 06-18-2007, 08:18 AM I am guessing the bids are somewhat bogus. I have seen PTG cars in Autoweek over the past few years at rougly similar prices that sit there for months and months. This car was in there for awhile as well IIRC. I am guessing that somebody might have been testing the reserve- still not met at $150k. onasled 06-21-2007, 08:05 PM 24 bids, Sold at US $229,100.00 http://i24.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/a4/77/6c69_3.JPG Steve J. 06-21-2007, 08:09 PM Can anyone confirm this was a real bid and the car was actually sold? onasled 06-21-2007, 08:45 PM The buyers feedback look pretty legit. I'm betting it was an honest deal. scottbm3 06-21-2007, 11:28 PM The buyers feedback look pretty legit. I'm betting it was an honest deal. He has 7 feedbacks?? He bought a Suzuki carb. and a cell phone recently. I wouldn't consider that great feedback for $200+k transaction.. Guess we'll wait and see. Steve J. 06-21-2007, 11:45 PM Sounds fake, I bet it goes back up or to private sale by next week. Market is so small for such items, I don't know why the sellers don't just go to the concentrated sources for selling these types of things. Steve J. 07-15-2007, 01:50 PM My assumptions were right, the deal was not real, its back up for sale! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260139566490&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:US:11 |
