BlkonBlk99 06-12-2007, 11:45 AM Grim, I was part of the transport group that brought the cars from BMW of Bridgeport to North Haven last night. I drove a 750LI. We had a blast ripping up I95. There was just a line of silver BMW's in the outside lane. I was following a 335Ci and had an X5 behind me. I posted pic's here: http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/368699 Have fun and make sure you check out the Alpina B7 in their showroom!! -Keith GrimReefer 06-12-2007, 01:27 PM unfortunately they wouldn't let me drive the 750 because i'm not 25. (im pretty pissed about that) i couldn't drive the 750, 650, or 335 because im not 25. there's no way in hell im going to miss out on that alpina ;) thanks for the heads up! jsedlak 06-12-2007, 02:46 PM Don't feel bad, I can't drive any of the cars as I am not 21 yet. GrimReefer 06-12-2007, 07:06 PM Don't feel bad, I can't drive any of the cars as I am not 21 yet. now you post this......i got there and i couldn't drive any! :mad i can drive there in my 7 series, and all, but i can't drive a z4 for a charity.....doesn't make sense. it's all good though, because i ran into RedFive there. (he was the guy in the red tracked out 535 from the hammonasset meet) that B7 was absolutely beautiful! it makes me feel like my car is crap. there was a sticker on the window that said "please don't touch me, i'm sold" plien69 06-12-2007, 07:44 PM Grim, Why didn't they let you drive any? Are you 21? GrimReefer 06-12-2007, 07:48 PM im 20 clor0x 06-12-2007, 08:09 PM Just got back...test drove a Z4 coupe and loved the thing. My girlfriend drove a 335 coupe and it is fast to say the least. We were doing 120 in seconds on 91 and didn't even realize it. The Z4 put my 325 to shame...it's just unfortunate that the cars are all automatics. GrimReefer 06-12-2007, 08:36 PM way to rub it in...... im so pissed i didnt get to drive anything. did i see you there? i was the guy in a brown shirt in the 740i. CrazyxMidget 06-12-2007, 09:16 PM Don't feel bad, I can't drive any of the cars as I am not 21 yet.Ditto. I want to do it so bad. :( lcjhnsn 06-12-2007, 11:13 PM I was there from 12:30 on. I'm an old fart and had no problem driving anything I wanted to. It's amazing how much more refined the whole line up is compared to my 1998 M3 and 2000 M Roadster. The 335 really kicks ass! More oomph than my s52 Roadster even with an automatic. This is the 8th year that I've done the Komen drive in North Haven and the transport drive after the event. Tonight we just did a short hop to Hartford. Since I coordinated the transport this year, I got the 650 vert for the trip. Tomorrow night I'm joining the transport from Hartford to Norwell Mass, again in a 650. Then on July 1st, I'll be helping with the transport from West Springfield to Endicott NY which is a 3-1/2 hour drive each way. I've asked for the 750 for that one. GrimReefer 06-13-2007, 12:12 AM you should have tried to pull some strings to get me in a car :D i had taken the day off of work and made a 45 mintue drive there just to participate only to be shut down. lcjhnsn 06-14-2007, 01:23 AM Grim, sorry you wasted your time. I've found that the folks running the show this year aren't as well organized as they could be. I didn't find out until I got to North Haven yesterday that they were down 2 cars and did not list the "Signature" X5 in the transport lineup. So, I had to kick my wife off the transport list so we didn't have more drivers than cars. Tonight I transported the 650 coupe (that was repaired and re-added to the roster today) from Hartford to Norwell Mass. It was a good time with several other veteran transporters from the CT chapter of the BMWCCA on hand. In a couple weeks (July 1st) I'll be driviing one of the 750's from West Springfield to Endiicott NY, about 3-1/2 hours of quality seat time. BlkonBlk99 06-14-2007, 12:53 PM Lance, The same thing happened to my Fiance'. She was scheduled to transport a 5 series to North Haven but I was called mid afternoon Monday to ask if we could give up her spot to a CCA member since the were down a car due to the crash. I was thinking that it would be pretty cool to do the 3.5 from MA to NY drive but (1) you need to be in MA at 7:30am on a Sunday (2) The 3.5 hours back on a shuttle bus :-( The 750 will be a great ride though. The IL was awesome. Such smooth power and a solid feel. Should be the perfect car to drive on a nice roadtrip like that. Have Fun!! -Keith plien69 06-14-2007, 01:49 PM Lance, The same thing happened to my Fiance'. But 3.5 hours in a nice, lux BMW is not a bad way to spend a Sunday. I transported the X5 4.8 to North Haven. That choice would also be great for a long trip. |
