I have a 528i that is in pretty rough shape and is now immobilized I am looking for a technical manual in pdf format if possible just before I order in a bentley manual. I am sporting so nice bright red 2nd degree burns on my arm after the expansion tank exploded and shot hot coolant all over my right arm and face and I need a manual before I venture into replacing it and other components. Thanks for all the help.

OMG! I'm so sorry, but you can't say you weren't warned. Just buy the 2 volume manual set (I think bentley) and you should be set. I need to get myself a set. I think Amazon has the cheapest prices.

Were you messing with the hot tank, like taking the cover off, when it 'exploded' on you?

No no. I exercised caution when opening the expansion tank's cap, but before I even managed to turn it we were examining a noise in the engine bay that sounded like one of the vents was open. As it turns out there was a crack in the expansion tank from god knows what and as I was lifting out my buddy managed to get a resounding "Look out!" before the crack widened and blew coolant all of the right side of my face and since my right arm was holding the torch it got a good portion of the blow as well. I hadn't even loosened any parts just looking for that damn leak. Needless to say I found it. Luckily I took my injury with a grain of salt and laughed as I sprinted full long into the shower with my pants cellphone and pack of smoke in my pocket. The cellphone survived.

Since we're laughing here....u-toast???

It sounds like what you are looking for is the BMW TIS (Technical Information System) on CD. It is the disc that the dealers use. It has info for various BMW models. If no one has one to share, you can but one on ebay for about $10.

It doesn't replace a Bentley Repair Manual, but it's a good supplement. And for $10, a real bargin.
