I'm looking for a manual one, I usually always leave it rolled up. I searched all over the net and nothing. Anyone know if there are any in after market. URLs would help.
Thanks a bunch.

View Full Version : e90 Rear Sun Shade mryakan 06-10-2007, 09:58 PM I'm looking for a manual one, I usually always leave it rolled up. I searched all over the net and nothing. Anyone know if there are any in after market. URLs would help. Thanks a bunch. Emory 06-11-2007, 12:06 AM I had raised this question in an earlier thread. Yes, there is in fact an OEM manual sunshade, as seen in the picture below (part #2). I called the parts department at my local BMW dealership and read them the part number (51 46 0 398 487); they had no idea what it was. But when I called Bavarian Autosport in New Hampshire (www.bavauto.com) to special order something else, I brought up the manual sunshade and the guy looked up the part - and yes, it does exist and they can order it for around $182 plus shipping. I haven't pulled the trigger, because 1) other posters in the previous thread felt that tinting was better, and 2) I don't know what installation requires. I don't want to drill anywhere into my interior if I can avoid it. If you do indeed get this, please let me know what is involved in its installation. Thanks! EDIT: Link to image (apparently, I can no longer link realoem.com images) http://www.realoem.com and enter the part number 51 46 0 398 487 mryakan 06-11-2007, 12:24 AM Thanks will try to get more info before I decide. Will keep you posted. mryakan 06-11-2007, 03:23 PM Check this out http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29962 Prices are 226.50 CAN and 203 US from dealer. RealOEM doesn't have a price, and you already quoted a bavauto price. It seems it requires some drilling and would cost around 2 hrs labor at the dealer :-(. I am still undecided. I would have ordered the electric sunshade, but that was not an available option on the 323, so this is the next best thing although it will end up costing close to 450$! ouch... Emory 06-11-2007, 09:44 PM Thanks for that link, mryakan. I had done the search on the e90post forum but I never saw that thread. I had thought the manual sunshade would have been an easy install, just attaching it to the parcel shelf. But .... removing the rear seat? Parts and labor approaching $400? The decision - tint vs. sunshade - looks like an easy one now. mryakan 06-11-2007, 10:38 PM I am not very positive on tinting. Heard bad stories about tinting accident with the heat blower and also read many threads on scratching and other issues with tinted windows. With 2 kids in the back it is too risky, I will probably go with the sunshade. Maybe I can squeeze a deal on the installation. mryakan 06-13-2007, 01:53 AM I was quoted 2.5 hrs labor at my dealer today, but I doubt they have done it before. I think I will shop around. |
