View Full Version : test drove 2007 jeep srt8
Amalan 06-10-2007, 04:04 AM i test drove a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 and let me tell you this car truly amazed me in every aspect. starting with the pros the first thing you notice when you start the car it the low rumble it makes. its such a beautiful sound. the seats are very comfortable to sit and everything about the driver comfort is just right. the jeep i test drove came with every bell and whistle. navi and rear entertainment system/camera. it was macked out. the car handled beautifully and i was allowed to test drive it on my own after signing some waiver and insurance agreement and taking so much information from me which was bs and they told me it was so i wouldnt steal the car yet when i asked to test drive the 7 i currently own, they just ran a quick copy of my license and tossed me the keys and said have fun. id rather steal a 7 than a jeep but whatever i wasnt going to argue with them plus they would have my 7 as collateral so i dunno what they were complaining about. i was also given a time limit of 10 minutes and no more than 20 miles which i thought was crap but whatever i made the most of it:buttrock so i took the car to a back road where some factories were to see how this baby really performed. when i floored it, i was breath taken in every possible way. the torque of the engine had my pushed back into the seat and the front end lifted up like it was gonna come off the ground. i felt like i was in a rocket. and the sound omg the sound when i floored it was sooo damn beautiful i almost cried. the car was a blast to drive and handled corners exceptionally well for an suv. but... here are some cons, i wasnt too pleased with the ease of the navigation system. i thought it would be easier to use but its kinda a pain. the sound quality was not impressive at all. i expected better. there is also alot of plastic in the car and its very cheesy looking. the rear camera is useless cause it does that wide aspect thing and its irritating to look at. gas mileage is a bitch since its a 6.1L hemi and this stupid thing cant go off road. wtf is a jeep if it cant go off road. jeeps are BUILT to go offroading.
all in all its an extremely fun car but i think its rather quixotic and i dont really get the marketing strategy behind it but ive seen quite a few on the road so i guess some people can justify the money for one of these.
trimegatron 06-16-2007, 09:55 PM You pretty much nailed it - it's a Chrysler; cheap. Nuff said.

yeah jeeps just arent jeeps anymore. they used to be amazing and lived up to their name off road. i dont see the point in a jeep if it cant go off road... thats not the point of a jeep!!! even tho its a cheap car... its not. with a 50k price tag its far from cheap lol.
GraphiteBrawler 06-17-2007, 01:28 AM I have a '00 grand Cherokee as my daily driver, and I have to say, I love my jeep, 130k miles and she still runs like a charm.
How would you say the driving experience compares with a E92 335I? Apples and oranges type of thing?

the 335i had more feeling on the road. its like driving a see doo and a boat on water. thats actually the best comparison i can give it. the 335i gave you so much more feeling of the road and everything around it that i related to a jet ski. the jeep on the other hand launched you back in your seat at the start but wasnt nearly as impressive as the 335i after that. its just the launch of the srt8 jeep thats just flat out impressive.
i have a 1996 jeep grand cherokee with 200k miles and shes still running strong i took her out off roading last weekend completely stock and i was amazed by what a stock jeep could do.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. Someone hit my vehicle with a dodge SRT8. I looked up the list - it was 56K!! This from a car that has the same interior bits as a sub 20K car.
Amalan 06-17-2007, 04:48 PM yeah the whole srt8 series is a pretty impractical car. id personally take a 335i over a charger srt8 cause theyre both just as quick yet you get like 10-15 more mpg with the 335i than the charger. the only thing tho is that a 335i will not sound as nice as an srt8. thats really their selling point imo. that engine/exhaust sounds so nice you may want to buy the car on that sole purpose lol.
NotoriousPMP 06-20-2007, 12:29 AM IMO the 335 sound really bad ass if you have the windows down. I drove both too and 335i FTW. 335i was $46,000 and felt like a BMW, the Jeep was $50,000 and felt like an intrepid on the inside.
For a vehicle such as the SRT8, you'd think Chrysler would throw in some carbon fiber touches for the interior, or ANYTHING besides the cheap plastic found in all of their other cars.
sounds like any other srt car, fast and kinda cheap feeling
The_Stig 08-01-2007, 03:35 AM i was also given a time limit of 10 minutes and no more than 20 miles which i thought was crap
Do you realize how obsurd those limitations are? In order to max out the 10 min/20mi limit, you would have to be traveling at 120mph for the entire 10 mins? WTF kind of dealer says you can't go more than 20 miles, oh yeah, and you have 10 mins. Thats just dumb on their part.

I think your just biased in your review, If you actually bothered to look up some facts on the Jeep you would know the Jeep can take down a Porsche Cayenne.

i love how your comment had nothing to do with my assessment of the srt8
maybe if you bothered to look up some facts youd find that the 335i and srt8 are identical to 60. no doubt the jeep srt8 is a fast ass suv but imo i think it should be treated as a car since you cant off road it and it handles almost as well as most cars so its really not much of an suv cause from what i recall suvs were initially built to do off road work. it also has less torque than the 5.7L hemi jeep grand cherokee limited. im not really biased i mean if you want a fast ass suv then get the srt8 but for the same price you can get a 335i which is a small rocket. the only reason i could see of getting an srt8 is if you wanted something with some interior room and was fast.

Can you take home a 65" plasma from BestBuy with ur 335, I think not.
You can say the same thing about the cayenne or X5, neither of the two are bilt for offroad. The regular Grand cherokees can be trail rated though. :confused

those 2 cars can be taken off road whether or not they were built for it. the srt8 sits so damn low to the ground it has barely any clearance and they specifically state that you cant take the car off road.
the regular grand cherokees can off road like none other. theyre just fun to off road even if theyre stock. the srt8 jeep is more like a play toy for someone with a family and likes to drive fast on the weekends and doesnt have enough money to buy 2 different cars for those 2 different purposes.
