on the 98 vert im am replacing the worn gasket of the motor thats in the storage compartment.

does anyone know if that main screw in the middle that goes straight to the motor that the rods connect to is supposed to be removed in order to remove the motor?(its a bitch to unscrew)

and is there a cover that goes ontop of the motor in the storage container? because when i got mine it is exposed in the compartment

thanks alott

Never heard of any motor gasket, let alone someone replacing it.

u never heard of it because when i went to the stealer to find one they said i had to buy a new motor to get the gasket...water was getting into my trunk...a small drip....i ended up doing a solid silicone job and ive done some tests and its looking real good.

thanks.

perhaps 'motor gasket' just wasn't the most logical phrase to use?

it sounds like you were referring to rubber seals.

This may be so late that you don't need the info, but maybe someone else is having the same problem. I recently replaced my top motor and I know exactly what you're saying about that main screw (hex bolt) that goes down into the motor. Yes, you do have to remove it to get the motor out. The factory installs it with Locktite glue, so you've got to wail on it to unscrew (counter-clockwise, of course). Funny thing is, the Bentley manual doesn't mention this crucial step.
