My new BMW 328i coupe is wandering all over the place.
My tp is 32(f) 35 (r).
I do not feel safe at highway speeds.
The "ass" of the car also feels like it is on soap when I play with the steering wheel.
At speeds below 50 the car is perfect.
Any advice ...I am taking it to the Service Dept tomorrow.
Thanks
Ricard

So it's not tire pressure since you've checked that.

You could have the alignment checked. But my guess is that you're just feeling the effects of the runflats. Lots of complaints.

Basically, the very stiff sidewalls mean that when the road camber changes slightly, the tire wants to turn in the direction of the slope, even if slight.

So the tires "tramline" which means following little undulations or imperfections in the road.

I'm thinking of pulling the RFT's and setting them side for lease return and putting on some standard performance tires, and hear a lot of people considering the same.

I just had BMW replace my Bridgestones with the Conti's, they picked up 100% of the cost. If you have Bridgestones, try that first.

Hello "Christos":

How did you convince them to do this?

They agreed to the oil cooler; No problems with the FI pump yet but it does not look good. Now I may need to bug them about replacement tires?

+1 on the Tramline effect

Sometimes it feels like an amusant park ride where the car is 'automatically' steered by means of guides in the ride path. I think my car could probably steer itself on certain roads.

I was told,by my BMW dealer, that if the customer complains about the Bridgestones they will replace them using formula below:

if you have less tha 10,000 miles BMW will cover the replacement at 100%, 10k to 20K you have to pay 50%, >than 20K you pay 100%. I had mine replaced two weeks ago at 100%, I was at 9,850 miles.

What are they replacing the bridgestones with. I will tell you this, I have already drove my 335i cross country. The car rides incredibly quiet, handles great through turns and stuff, But I do have a bit of a loose feeling, and sometimes I do feel they grab something on the road and tramline like crazy. I was passing a truck the other day and wasn't so sure I was in control. Not the feeling I want, especially coming from an E36 M3 that has unbelievable steering control. I'd be curious what they are replacing them with? Also, i didn't buy this car from a local dealer, so I'm not sure I will get this royal treatment and get new tires.

I just picked up my car less than 2 weeks ago and have about 8xx miles on it. How can I request for my dealer to swap out the Bridgestones for the Contis?

Thanks!

If it is the RFT's how do the AUTO mags rave about these car's handling?.
Are they idiots or what or are they just blindly loyal to the brand. I do not consider myself a car fundi but I know what a car should and should not do. MAybe they test the cars on a pristine surface like a racetrack. Surely there must be many complaints to BMW on this. If it is the rft's I will go to GFT , I have not had a flat in 6 years. I may try the Conti's 1st (hopefully free from BMW).
Thanks for yr input

I just wonder at what point they are going to tell me to "go pound sand". They have agreed to the oil cooler, I was planning to ask about the FI pump, now on top of all that I may need to ask for free replacement tires?

How many miles on your car??

Tell them your tires are very, very noisy and you want something done about it. Complain about road noise

Don't you think they will drive the car to see that there is no road noise? This is one of the quietest cars I have ever been in, remarkable for a 3 series. I don't think they will just give you $1000 worth of tires because you say they are loud... I think we were looking to see if there is some sort of TSB out there or something. What model Continentals would they give you? I would think Pilot Sports would be the tire of choice for this car if you have the sport package. Other than a few instances of feeling loose on the highway, the car drives and handles GREAT!

Hello "Christos":

WADR, these won't cut it. First, they are H speed rated. While this is fine for old folks like my wife, the tires on my 335 are W speed rated. "H" won't even get me out of 4th. Second, the sizes are wrong. I have 225/40 R18 on the front and 255/35 R18 on the rear. Last time I checked "Tire Rack" web site, the Bridgestones were the only game in town.

You've got one weird car there. My 328xi coupe with both the winter 17" Bridgestone Blizzaks and the summer 18" Potenzas is excellent. Both are run flats.

I think the car feels a little vague on the freeway, but tires don't fix highways with grooves in them.

My car is super quiet and other than it being a little light on center compared to my Z, it's great.

Some people take the sugar pill and feel sick, others get better.
