What kind of sets does everyone reccomend..? vjlax18 02-19-2003, 01:00 PM Stock brakes with some good pads. You had said in another post that you wanted to AutoX, so something like Axxis Ultimates with stock rotors, or the Erou floating would work great. Try asking the question in the Tech Forum. jblack 02-19-2003, 01:13 PM It might melp if you told us what kind of "M" you have - from your name, I'm assuming you have an M3, but we can't guess if it is an E30, E36 or E46. For the E36 (I'm guessing that is what you have) try DS3000 pads from Ferodo for track only. Also, you can upgrade to euro floating rotors if you want - they won't slow you any faster, but they are better for your front wheel bearings, and they weight less. Otherwise, stick with the solid OEM replacements. You can get Porsche brakes to fit with adapters, as well as nice pieces from UUC, Rogue and Brembo. Those are very good, but probably overkill for light track or the street. vjlax18 02-19-2003, 01:17 PM He has a 98 M3 coupe. CABimmer 02-19-2003, 01:22 PM Ive had Axis Ultimates for about 3 months, I just ran them at the track this weekend and they held up very well. jblack 02-19-2003, 01:28 PM I hear the Axis Ultimates are the best street and light track pads around. The DS3000 are strictly a track pad - on par with the Hawk Blues, but without the corrosive dust... ///Mracer 02-19-2003, 01:39 PM What about Hawk HP+ for a combo of auto-x, track, and street? I am thinking of getting these soon. I ran Hawk HPS last season and they sucked! I was not very impressed with their performance for auto-x or track use. I am looking for the best performance for auto-x with about 6-8 days at the track. My ride is not daily driven either, maybe 5K of street use. eurorides 02-19-2003, 01:42 PM do m coupes have the same brakes as e36 m3's (s54 m coupe)? Hammm3 02-19-2003, 10:32 PM Hawk Blues for sale!!!!!!! Pinecone 02-20-2003, 10:04 AM Originally posted by eurorides do m coupes have the same brakes as e36 m3's (s54 m coupe)? Basically yes. They use the same front and rear pads, and the same rotors. I qualify my answer above slightly as I am not sure if there are any small differences. But the major parts are the same. jblack 02-21-2003, 12:12 PM Originally posted by Matthew C Smith any idea how the Ferodo's treat rotors? I hear they are nicer than the Blues, tougher than stock. I'll be running them on the M3 this year, so I'll let you know, or you can ask when I see ya, Matt! M Rob 02-21-2003, 12:29 PM MCoupe brakes use exactly the same pads as M3s. The Ferodo DS3000 is very easy on rotors as far as track pads go. Nothing like the Hawks or Pagids. They also have a much more stable torque curve. The Axxis Ultimates stand up to the track just as well if not better than the HP+. They have a high fade temp ~950F and can be run on the street comfortably unlike the HP+ which dust and squeal. They also have a stronger bite at temp than the stock pads. Let me know if I can answer any other questions for you guys. Thanks! -ursa- 02-21-2003, 01:09 PM I think I am going to go with the Ultimates and ATE rotors for this season on my stock 325 brakes (with stainless lines). My car is still street driven, is the dust level low on the Ultimates? How about the squeal? M Rob 02-21-2003, 01:15 PM Axxis Ultimates dust about 50% of stock. And what dust they do put out is much lighter and less visable. They are a quiet pad. They have a anti-squeal pad bonded to the pad backing to keep noise down. jblack 02-21-2003, 01:20 PM Dust is lower than stock - neither stock nor Ultimates ever squeal on me... If you get steel lines (I love mine) get them teflon coated....dirt will get into the braids otherwise and break down the rubber underneath. Race cars don't bother with this, as they change the lines lots during the season. Us street drivers need to worry, though..... ///Mracer 02-21-2003, 01:52 PM Axxis Ult. - I am about to purchase new pads for this season and originally I was going to get the Hawk HP+, but now I might consider the axxis Ult. How are these pads for auto-x use? I am doing 20+ auto-x's and about 6-8 days at the track with approx. 5K of street driving. Any other pads that are better performance but can handle some street wear??? Sooooo, which is the best pad for auto-xing ??????????? I ran HPS last season and I hated them. Thanks for the info, :) eurorides 02-22-2003, 07:57 PM what is the most popular setup for brembos if i dont want to get 19" wheels to clear 14" rotors....maybe 13" ? just looking at what the best brake setup is for me if i do decide to go more then just pads/ rotors...and whats the appx cost for 13" brembos for m coupe?? (i would like to keep 17" wheels if possible, either stock, or maybe bbs rk's) MrBlonde 02-23-2003, 05:51 AM Originally posted by eurorides what is the most popular setup for brembos if i dont want to get 19" wheels to clear 14" rotors....maybe 13" ? just looking at what the best brake setup is for me if i do decide to go more then just pads/ rotors...and whats the appx cost for 13" brembos for m coupe?? (i would like to keep 17" wheels if possible, either stock, or maybe bbs rk's) You can clear 13.5" rotors on 18" wheels. To see my setup visit www.bavariacars.com.au and follow the Silver M Coupe links. frayed 02-23-2003, 11:22 AM Ultimates will not work on heavy, hard driven track cars, tracking in high ambient temps, or with bad braking technique. Ds3000's perform well, but in 6 track days I killed mine. Matthew C Smith 02-24-2003, 11:22 AM Originally posted by jblack I hear they are nicer than the Blues, tougher than stock. I'll be running them on the M3 this year, so I'll let you know, or you can ask when I see ya, Matt! sounds good, hopefully I can make it out the a track day again this year (and actually stay the entire weekend this time!) |
