Hi guys, I have only had my car for a few months--its completly stock--and have a question :help

harness bar: i noticed HMS makes a harness bar that bolts on, is there any other manuf. that makes one that wont look too tacky for regular use?

harnesses: is there any manuf that makes a harness that doesn't require a bar?... i admittedly dont know much about harnesses, but i do know all the ones ive seen use the backseat (and i dont have one :D)

i'd like to know my options so i can do some research before i make a purchse.. i'm running in the regional street tire class, but plan on switching to B-Stock (with race rubber) sometime this season... oh and any other M-Roadster set-up advice is always appreciated
thanks in advance:clap:

The HMS harness bar requires the HMS rolbar AFAIK. But not a bad setup, as the bar adds some rigisity to the rear of the chassis.

But HMS will tell you that you have to mod the seat with harness slots to use a harness with their setup, and modding the seats is a no-no in Stock. But people have run harness without modding the seats.

But no harness will work without a harness bar. There is just no place to hook the harness too.

Also watch the SCA rules about harnesses without a full SCCA legal roll bar or cage, which is NOT easy to do in an M Roadster. I am not sure whether the HMS setup will fly. It probably will in local events, but don't expect it to go at the Nationals.

The only recommendations I have is to get some lighter wheels, the stock ones are pretty heavy, and run no stagger or less stagger on the tire sizes to help tune out the understeer.

Put a good set of shocks on the car, and go for it.

I found this at the HMS website:
HMS Harness Page (http://www.hmsmotorsport.com/newstore.php?m=19&sub=879)

it looks like the 1st one fits into their roll-bar and the 2nd doesn't. but i could be reading it wrong :blush2:

I havent decided what to do about the wheel option. i drove a friend's M3 (on race rubber) at the last event and thought it was a blast (dropped almost 3s off my time). the major difference beyond tires was the twitchiness of my car.. i dont know if anything can be done about that and still stay in stock class, but i'm going to try ;)

The 2nd one requires that you drive a Coupe, as it ties into the B pillar. It won't work on your Roadster. You'll need a roll bar to tie the harness bar into.

Or go to Homecoming. Last year HMS had their roll bar on sale for $200 off.

terry, does it work for the roadster or jsut the coupe? i am looking at alternatives... a friend of mine was trying to figure out if there was a way to secure a harness on the roll-bars. any ideas?

I looked a that also, but the belts would have to turn 90 degrees coming off the bars onto your shoulders. You could make your own harnes bar, but the Roadster roll hoops are covered with a molded on foam like covering. You would have to remove that where the bar mounts.

Easiest answer, put in the HMS bar with harness bar.
