View Full Version : Howdy and Hello!
Chynna77 05-28-2007, 02:47 PM Okay I found this forum form another bimmer forum. I recently bought a 1998 528i and am just trying to educate myself on the world of BMW's. I am determined to be the most informed female BMW owner in the LoneStar State!

Bimmerista 05-28-2007, 03:01 PM Welcome!
If you want to become informed specifically to your e39, the 5-series forum here is a great start.
razahyde 05-28-2007, 03:18 PM hi :)
Stück 05-28-2007, 03:28 PM OMG like HI2U.
Welcome to the Texas forum. We all act like 10 year olds here.
UDM Motorsport 05-28-2007, 05:39 PM welcome...another houstonian!
Chynna77 05-28-2007, 06:37 PM I had to start over because I put a smilie in the damn message and I can't do so yet!
Thanks for the welcomes! I promise I am very cool and down to earth (and no I'm not some out of shape fat/tomboy chick)!!
I did get the service records from a very nice dealer and was able to determine what most of the service codes mean. I kow the alternator had perm failure at 84,000k so I assumed its obviously been replaced. Any suggestions on any intial service for the ride?
bcausseaux 05-28-2007, 09:28 PM You are a brave woman telling anyone on these boards you are a woman. I hope you like to be internet leg humped :)
turbo mike 05-28-2007, 09:55 PM What is the mileage on your car now? My wife has a 2000 528i sport that I recently did the 100K mile service on (service II). The dealer/stealer wanted about $2,000 to perform the service as well as a brake job. I did it myself for much less :D

I will be okay, I am a big girl.
Turbo Mike 135,000, she was a CPO from 2000-2003 and maintained. The BMW service records stop in late 2003, I was thinking about a service II type service.
UDM Motorsport 05-29-2007, 12:05 AM inspection 2 should run anywhere from $500-800 depending on the shop...and if you work on the car yourself, you can do some/most of the work.
weaksauce 05-29-2007, 09:11 AM one word, radiator.
if it hasn't been changed, do it. Seriously.
edit: welcome.
///M3 713 05-29-2007, 03:16 PM welcome! post pics of your car when you can.
Chynna77 05-29-2007, 09:44 PM I learned the hard way about the cup holders today. Red subway soda! Luckily it spilled on the black floor mats. I was pissed!

Road fly e39 board is a great resource as well as the E39 board on here.

best e39 board around. Veteran 540 owner here, we also have a 2000 528iA sport with 210k on it. Whatever's going to fail on your car, i've probably already done so ask away. Get that cooling system replaced ASAP if it hasn't already.

+1, BFC E39 boards are full of useless threads, roadfly is hard to navigate, and bimmerfest is the shit.

There isn't much checking to be done. It will all of the sudden fail. That's just the nature of our crappy cooling systems. When they work, they're great. Behr is the only name you should be looking into for a replacement, and get it from BMA. www.bmaparts.com 1-888-262-3911, speak to Patrick and tell him brandon from Dallas referred you.
