hi,

my friend just bought a 2000 323i and the shifter doesn't show the right gear. the correct gear is displayed on the dash but the orange indicator bar next to the shifter disappears or shows the incorrect gear.

example:
when in park the orange indicator next to the shifter disappears.
when in D the orange bar is at D4... etc

i did a search in the forums and couldn't find a fix. can anyone help?

Does it still have a warranty? It should since it is 2000.
I would take it to the dealer.

I don't have a fix for you on this one, but I have seen this happen on a couple of E46 cars I have taken for test drives.

the car is indeed an e46 sedan with approximately 75,xxx miles on it. i think it might be past the factory warranty.... it was bought used.

what disturbs me is, i saw the same problem in another e46 i test drove as well.

does anyone know if there is a service bulletin out for this problem?
