View Full Version : WTF? Stereo just stopped working!
Volfinator 05-27-2007, 04:41 PM I've had an alpine IVA-D100 head unit and recently I had to replace my alternator. So of course I unplugged the battery cable and swapped the alternator and did some other work while I was in there. Well the battery was unplugged overnight and when I finally got everything back together my head unit isn't working.
I have the alpine bypass TR-7 box in there so I don't have to wire it up to my parking brake and foot brake. Well the head unit won't let me access several of the advanced menus or play DVD's so I figure the box needed re-programmed and rewired. No problem, did that and nothing.
Still didn't work!?
Tried the reset button the head unit...
NOTHING!
So I call alpine and they tell me that when I plugged the battery back in I might have fried the RCA outputs? WTF!? a car battery is unplugged all the time for whatever reason, you'd think they'd be built to withstand such things.
I checked all the inline fuses in the system and in my fuse box and all the connections and everything is good. Is there something else built into the car that I'm missing? I get NO SOUND and everything is wired up fine.
Anybody have any ideas?
xsproutx 05-27-2007, 04:44 PM so is it functioning and you don't have sound? or is it not coming on completely?
Volfinator 05-27-2007, 05:58 PM It works. Screen moves in and out like its supposed to, screen lights up and displays everything. It'll show radio stations and reads input from my ipod and will display track name and all that stuff on screen. All buttons on the touch screen work too, as well does the "pulse" feature of the screen. Just no sound and the menus are acting like they aren't hooked up properly to the ebrake and foot brake. In the month that it was functioning I would get about 6 different options when I pressed the "set up" button, now when I press it I get two options that don't let you adjust anything major.
oeintegration 05-27-2007, 07:14 PM sounds like the tr-7 since you get no video or extra menus- extra menus only work when you go through the parking process. You can try manually engaging the parking/brake wire to see if it works.
the tr-7 usually does not need to be programmed- make sure the switch is in the off position

I did. I even bought a new one and installed it. And I did it just like before and the TR-7 responds just like the instructions say it should. I pulsed it twice and then it flashed the LED back at me twice to indicate I did it correctly, then flashed non-stop for 3 seconds as per the directions, and then I flipped the switch to off as per the directions. Still nothing.

Pulse the Alpine wires themselves and bypass the TR-7 and see what happens. BTW, the TR-7 is already set up to do the Alpine bypass out of the package with no programming required- it says it on the sheet.

You do have to program it just to tell it what its doing. Best picture I can get why my camera.

There is a statement on the manual that says you do not have to program to work with option 2 which is the Alpine bypass- I work with the TR-7 for the Alpine bypass all the time.

well either way, its set up to do the alpine bypass. so....
why don't I get sound from any source?
xsproutx 05-27-2007, 11:33 PM eh, i've "fried" the rca outputs on a deck before. not that way, but they can fry for sure.
i'm assuming you have it hooked up to an amp for your speakers?
try pulling the deck out and hooking a speaker to the HUs amp and see if you get sound. that'll help narrow it down.
it's odd the way your menu is acting like your bypass unit isn't working. not sure why that one would be. :\
HowIRoll 05-28-2007, 12:42 AM did you check the fuse for the factory amp? if its amped.
is everything factory other than the alpine?
I can't remember off hand but does it Have the Power IC function to turn off the alpine's internal amp.
as for the bypass I'd just check it temporarily with power and ground, see if it works that way, foot brake (+), hand parking (-)

No factory amp (I don't have H&K)
Not sure what power IC is? the unit came with its own 50x4 amp that I wired up under the driver seat. all the inline fuses are good and connections tight.
HowIRoll 05-28-2007, 01:06 AM most the upper alpine have a feature (power IC) that you can shut off the internal amp so all of the power is available for the preamps and creates less heat in the cd for better life, sound ,etc
HowIRoll 05-28-2007, 01:19 AM page 41 in the owners manual show you hawo to turn each speaker off or on .
