I have a '95 318i and the stereo will cut off for a few seconds and cut back on frequently. It seems like it only happens on hot days. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Also, my CD changer says error everytime I try to turn on a CD. If I listen in the trunk, it sounds like it is trying to load but it never works...
Thanks in advance for the help,
Harrison

Might be able to help but need more details about your system and what it consists of.

The stereo and cd changer are stock from BMW. There haven't been any upgrades. I am thinking about replacing it with a Pioneer if I can't fix this...

does it happen while you are driving, while parked, low or loud volume, when you hit a bump in the road, how long does it turn off for, and is there something that happens before it turns itself back on?

At first, it was just happening when the volume was up but now it is happening all the time. It turns off for about 2 seconds and the screen turns off and then it turns back on like when starting the car

sounds like you fried the internal amp on the HU and now it overheats easily. ive seen it happen with aftermarket HUs but not stock ones so its a possiblity

Seems like you have a bad head unit but the best thing to do is pay someone to troubleshoot it rather than trying the good old trial and error of replacing parts.

eh it happens to alot of stock cars in the summer time. theres really no cost friendly way to fix it. you could take some canned air just just blow into the slot and see if it works or refrigerate your cds or something LOL i dunno if that actually works im gonna have to try that now i have a jeep that does the same thing and the way i fix it is placing the cd it when it says error and spits it our i place it on my clothes too cool it down then place it back in there and do that about 10 times and itll eventually play. thats just my case tho. it would be easier and better to get a new headunit alltogether.
