i'm going to be moving to LA soon (sorry guys, i'll convince someone to leave when i get there though) and the traffic concerns me.

granted, DC traffic isn't calm by any standards.

my concern is having a manual for a daily driver. will i be completely miserable owning a manual E30 as a daily driver? I'm aiming for West LA, btw.

i guess it all depends on how bad of the traffic it is..i go to la sometimes and hate the traffic with a passion and makes me wanna switch to an auto. everyweek day is traffic here in california no matter where you are i think..lol do you love to drive stick? If so you will probably miss it if you get an auto...

In OC, a manual isnt bad, but when i go into LA for a concert, auto show, etc. i want to gut myself cause my legs are tired and just want to rest.

I drive to LA 3-4 times a week. The Valley and Downtown taking the 5....stick is kinda a bitch in stop n' go but you get used to it. My msuatng is 5 speed and so is my Bimmer

You'll get used to it eventually. The manual might even keep you awake when you feel like passing out.

For the most part, a manual is a blessing in traffic. Stick it in first and you're good.. no riding the brake like in an auto. Only annoyance can be if you're truly in stop and go uphill or something.
