View Full Version : I need cosmetic advice...

Okay, I want to slightly upgrade the cosmetic look of my car if that makes sense.

My tax return money has still to be put o good use, so I might as well put some of it into my 528.

Here's the way it looks now:

Side:

Okay...
I love the conservative, mature, stock look of the car. I just want to try to upgrade it a bit. But I want to stay as far as possible away from the "ricer" or "Euro/ricer" look.

First, I was thinking of taking off the dealer ad for the front plate and replacing it with something new...
Would a logo plate or a Euro look better on the front of the car?

Also, if there's a better idea out there, I'm open to it. I can't make up a decision on a front plate.

Also, I've been looking around for headlights and tail lights. I think I have found a decent look for tail lights:

Do you think this would go with the current stock headlights, or would I have to smoke the corner lenses?

In addition, I really love the pre 01 headlights, but I think the car looks a bit too plain at night. I'm looking around for a set of angel eyes. From what I've seen of the diffrent styles of headlights to choose from, everything just seems either weird or crazy, or even tasteless at times. And I know I can buy the cheap angel eye rings to put into my current headlights, but I think that may look a bit cheap. So, anyone have any suggestions for angel eyes? (Pics of them installed on other e39s would really help)

And maybe for the future, any opinions on these wheels?

I know I'm asking for a lot of advice:rolleyes but I'd really appreciate it If I could get some feedback and maybe even some suggestions?

What's your budget?

I'm still looking for what I like at the moment. I'm not worrying about the cost right now. Everything is still in that planning stage.

I think there is a piece of trim you can buy to delete your front license plate. I would keep the wheels you have now and use that money to update your heads, tails, and side markers. If you have a little extra cash after that get a trunk lid spoiler and then M5 grills.

I replaced the front plate holder section of the bumper trim for like $15, very clean look, no front plate, and rather inexpencive fix. The link will show you the different inserts available. Woops can't post links yet so cut and paste.

Any ideas where to find that piece of trim?

Well, I was planning on using the money to update the side, and head/tail lamps. and then saving up for a set of wheels later... (If I choose to) After all I am satisfied with the wheels I have right now:D

Ok, well, I'm going to agree with most of the other people commenting. I'd either take off the front plate completely or do the europlates.

As for wheels, I'd keep the ones you have, they just look too good.

Those rear lights you posted...are those off of ebay? They don't look bad, but I would buy the oem lights and smoke them yourself. Are you planning on updating the headlights or sidemarkers? I would do that in place of the wheels.

One more thing I would suggest is a set of springs to drop the car a little bit more.

Not a big fan of the rims you posted...the M's on your car are complementary to your car as it sits.

Conservative lowering, lighting, and maybe update bumpers if in budget. Good luck!

Nice auto ya got there!!!

Aside from what everyone else said, I would get the '03 OEM grill...
Not too chromed out, but definatley upgraded.

1. Delete the front plate.
2. Lighting update (front, side back)
3. '03 OEM grill.
4. How's about a front lip?
5. Keep your wheels.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Now I think I'll leave my current wheels, and concentrate on tail, side, and front light upgrades.
