I just bought a 1999 323 IC and the top is not working.
I have tried the reset procedure several times with no luck.
The light continuously flashes no matter what position it is in.
When I try the reset procedure the Top Lid closes and then
the motor starts grinding. Its like its not senseing that it is completely
closed and keeps trying to close. I have searched for several hours and
cant find any info on this. If anyone can Help I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

Sounds like you and I have the same exact problem. I blame the microswitch that detects whether the lid is closed, so it just continuously tries to close itself and ends up grinding away...
If it wasn't 12:30am I'd definately go outside and muck around with it a bit...
That grinding is LOUDDD though, isn't it?

I have read several place with people with the same problem but no
answer. I figured from reading manual it would have to be hall sensor.
The manual shows how to test sensor with DMM.
I did this test and voltage was 6.8v and manual says it should be 5v.
Is this to high or normal. I am going to check all other microswitches
today but I am thinking either control module or hall sensor.
Also no matter which direction the top switch is pressed it tries to close
the lid and just keeps going. Hopefully we can figure this out?

Dude it sounds like we have identical problems
Please keep me updated on what you find. I have just checked every microswitch and they all appear to be in working order.
I don't think I have a hall sensor, my top is semi auto, yours is full auto.
I could be wrong...

I am pretty sure even the semi-auto has the Hall sensor.
This is copy and paste from the Top manual.
"
The CVM(control module) monitors the storage lid position via the hall effect sensor signal. When the fully
closed position is detected, the top cover motor is switched off.
The drive linkage continues to push the cover to a raised position. A hall sensor integrated
in the cover motor provides status of the storage lid movement and position to the CVM.
The motor is switched off when it reaches the end of its predetermined travel.
"
This problem could only be 2 things.
Hall Sensor or Control Module.
I suspect Hall Sensor because the CVM detects the switch and starts motor.
but could be either one. I also have checked the other microswitches but dont see how they could cause this problem anyway from looking at the schematic.
If anybody else has had any experience with this problem please let us know.
If not I think I will try the Hall sensor if I can find one in local junkyard

Same. Please keep in contact with me and let me know your findings!
I wonder if they will be pricey...

He can't receive PMs until his post count reaches a certain number. Then, it's automatically on.
