View Full Version : A free six pack of beer for 5 minutes with your ECU
triggrhaapi 05-25-2007, 02:13 AM I have my S50 in my E30. The engine turns over but does not start. My best guess is that my ECU is sketchy. I am located in Woodland Hills in the Summit Townhomes which are right next to Topanga Canyon and Oxnard. If you can come by and let me test your ECU in my car, I will straight up buy you a six pack of beer, even if the ECU isn't my problem.
ParadigmGuy 05-25-2007, 02:25 AM Have you checked to see if you're getting fuel? Spark?
triggrhaapi 05-25-2007, 02:29 AM I know it's got fuel because it has pressure on the lines when I try to remove them. I'll pull one of the plugs to check for spark.
triggrhaapi 05-25-2007, 02:36 AM There does not appear to be any spark. Plugs are brand new, coils were perfectly fine on the last car they were on.
I pulled the plug, put it on the coil and tried to start the engine. Nothing. Not even in pitch black.
triggrhaapi 05-25-2007, 02:39 AM Previous owner of the ECU said that there was water damage but it worked, I'm thinking that's not the case.
NAZ1998BMWM3 05-25-2007, 02:40 AM it still might be the ecu or the chip in the key, try another key!
triggrhaapi 05-25-2007, 02:48 AM My car does not have EWS and my turner chip is EWS delete.

Did you ground the plug?
Btw, what was stopping the engine from turning that you previously posted?
You said about 20°.

Edit, poster before me asked the same question. Just hold the coil pack with the plug in it, and have the spark plug go into contact with the long piece of metal on top of the head under the plastic valve cover then crank it.

AC pulley delete and subsequent reuse of the same bolts, which caused interference with the block.

lol
Xtatic 05-25-2007, 10:03 PM see if your crank position sensor works (ensure harness connectivity is good to the sensor) - if there is no signal from this sensor, your ECU won't get the crank angle which is needed to calculate when to give out the spark - so it won't.
///M3///M5 05-25-2007, 11:09 PM I would cut pin 66 on the DME anyways, just make sure EWS is not screwing with you.
Synthetic Darkness 05-26-2007, 03:14 AM My car does not have EWS and my turner chip is EWS delete.
So then you would need another ECU with EWS delete. Unless you can just pull your chip out.
