NYY42 05-24-2007, 07:58 PM Can you even drift in an automatic 318 with an open diff? seriously.. Biggins 05-24-2007, 08:16 PM Can you even drift in an automatic 318 with an open diff? seriously.. Some people can ;) http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showpost.php?p=9596344&postcount=57 NYY42 05-24-2007, 08:18 PM Some people can ;) http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showpost.php?p=9596344&postcount=57 lol not sure if that is classified as drifting. Biggins 05-24-2007, 08:35 PM Sorry I don't have the tires that give off the red smoke... I make the most out of every opportunity I have to get on a skidpad no matter what car I have. SpeedTheory 05-24-2007, 10:17 PM Everybody that was at the Bowie event can vouch for my oversteer/drift tendencies :(. Couldn't get all four wheels sliding as nicely as Chris, though ;). Tochenzo 05-24-2007, 10:39 PM i'll be there saturday SpeedTheory 05-24-2007, 11:03 PM Maybe you & Jimmy can try to hang with the 'ol four-banger this time ;). I'm still not dialed in, there's a chance for you all ;). clintjg 05-25-2007, 10:38 AM I'd go since it's so close but it's already full up. sKunkman 05-25-2007, 10:49 AM I'd go since it's so close but it's already full up. You can probably show up and hopefully register if people who had registered don't come out. clintjg 05-25-2007, 11:33 AM If I can make it.... lot's to do this weekend. SpeedTheory 05-26-2007, 02:59 PM First and last autocross with CDC. Very poorly run (sooooo slowly it wasn't even funny), poor course setup (Went off-course twice out of the three runs I bothered staying for, they apparently don't like using pointer cones). The fourth heat will likely not get home until 7 or 8pm tonight because it was run so unsmoothly. They would hold start every time a cone was knocked over, literally. Only ran one car at a time, took almost 2 hours to run the first half of 1 out of 4 heats. I've never been to an autocross before that I didn't enjoy, and this was the first. joenationwide 05-26-2007, 03:50 PM First and last autocross with CDC. Not beating myself up for missing this. xvxax 05-26-2007, 03:55 PM I was wondering where you'd run off to Ryan. Stopped by at like 2:30 and watched a heat after going to autozone and remembering there was an autocross a mile away from it. Looked like things were going slow. There was a section of the course where if you ran over a cone, you had to go back through that area before any of the workers could pick up the cone you punted, thus DNFing you? Some worker almost ran right into a cars path going to pick up a cone. interesting setup. SpeedTheory 05-26-2007, 04:11 PM I don't understand how that could have been...they would hold start every time a cone went down to make SURE there was no way a corner worker would get hurt. The announcer was also the most boring of all time. Makes you miss Bogdan, Pete, Eric, etc. I only worry that people who have never been to a BMWCCA, SCCA, etc. event would not be interested in autocrossing because of this. I was in over my head with the poor course layout, after having done a complete season in two separate regions (whole mess of events). I couldn't imagine how a first-timer would feel here. The lot is too small, also. Automagic seeks. ohnoes 05-26-2007, 05:36 PM Glad I didn't go, but 4-hour Saturday Accounting 211 class FTL. xvxax 05-26-2007, 05:58 PM In the back of the course furthest away from the spectators, a car ran over a cone, then took that 180 and was coming back at the worker as he was running to go pick up the cone. It was the workers mistake. I don't understand how that could have been...they would hold start every time a cone went down to make SURE there was no way a corner worker would get hurt. Tochenzo 05-26-2007, 06:42 PM lol on one of my runs near the end...a fucking moth or some bug went into my helmet and i tried getting it out...next second i look up and a line of cones are in front of me so i decided to run them over :nono shim 05-26-2007, 08:19 PM lolololol @ tochenzo knocking out the timing system hol scheisse, i saw the Hartge E90 5.0 v10 on 495........sounds sooo sick SpeedTheory 05-26-2007, 11:40 PM I think Josh was the only person who went that got a "real" run in. I disliked that lot when the NCC ran it. I now hate it. Nihilation 05-27-2007, 11:38 AM There were only a handful of people who didn't follow the course correctly. I guess you were one of them. http://www.byrdfeeder.com/events/CDC052607/images/DSCN7717.jpg The event was a bit longer than usual, then again there were probably just too many cars registered for the event. The 1st heat was all done at 2:30, 2nd heat was finished at 3:30, the 3rd heat was done at 4:30 and the lot was cleared at 6. For those who don't know, CDC does split heats. Each heat has 3 runs in the morning and another 3 in the afternoon. In the event you can't stay for the afternoon they will give you 4 morning runs instead of just 3. As far as the OPHS lot sucking, many people will disagree. It's a nice, freshly paved smooth lot, albeit a bit smaller than those found in MD, but it's certainly better than Fredrick. And for the casual autocrosser CDC is great. Sorry you didn't have fun. Video from the autocross showing layout- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjUtmcJyS04&eurl= I was a disappointed they didn't include a slalom or two but regardless it's always fun. sKunkman 05-27-2007, 11:52 AM I just don't understand why CDC doesn't run split heats once. Why do they have to split it morning/afternoon? That way EVERYONE has to be there all day long. They don't need all those people there all day. They should just have people show up maybe 30-45 mins before their heat, tech, register, and run. Then they can work and leave. Oh well, I may do a test n tune at frederick some time coming up, they seem to be a lot less crowded. Anyways, I had one good run (39.3) where I hit two cones. Ouch. My best clean run was a 41.1 (slow). My car kept sliding into turns, which doesn't help for carrying any sort of speed though them. Live and learn though :) MdMcoupe 05-27-2007, 12:36 PM YeaaaaahhhhOUCH! Not beating myself up for missing this. +1 Never been to one, never plan on it. ;) shim 05-27-2007, 02:44 PM this is the exact same Hartge that did a 'ricer flyby' on me yesterday http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v463/Jshkrauss/DSCN1506.jpg http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=700230&referrerid= baller motomoron 05-28-2007, 09:46 PM 39.5 in my bone-stock '98 M3. Clean... With CDC you can easily pick which heat you're in. Look at the registration list and take note of the names of the last registered. Keep checking back. If you want to be in heat 1, wait 'til someone new is signed up for heat 4, and sign up. You'll be in heat 1. I skip the afternoon session anymore and take 4 in the AM. I drive slow but try to get some heat in the tires and really learn the course on the first run. I push a bit harder and try to string the line together on run 2. The tires are good for 3 which is when I try to set a time. The 4th run is gravy, and usually it's my fastest. What really helped this weekend was a set of wheel studs and an 18v impact gun. Tire swapping was MUCH more pleasant. See you guys in Fredneck in a couple weeks |
