hi guys, i have a 01 bmw x5 3.0,
recently, my check engine light came on, p0344
camshaft position sensor, 'a' circuit intermittent (bank 1 or single sensor)
I replaced a camshaft sensor, the on the cylinder head, right above the exhaust manifold.
according to the parts guy, there is 2 camshaft sensor one for each cams, but looking back at alldata and looking at the car, i couldnt see it.
is this problem really common??
i have already spent couple hundred dollars, many help would be appreciated.
btw: once in a while, my car is hard to start, which makes sense because if the cam sensor is not giving the correct signal or no signal at all...the computer should go into fail safe mode.
hope to hear from you guys soon

the one on the front of the head is the exhaust camshaft sensor, which I think is sensor B for OBD II codes. the intake cam sensor is on the left side of the head, just to the left of the oil filter cap, beside the VANOS solenoid.

the exhaust cam sensor has a connector that plugs into it. the intake cam sensor has a pigtail wire on it and it plugs in down under the intake manifold.
