View Full Version : what year is the most reliable in the 750il SDKCM3 07-06-2001, 02:45 PM I owned a 1990 750il had a lot fo trouble with it but i loved the ride. I would believe that newer is better, but I think it also depends on how you drive the car. guysimpson 07-11-2001, 02:38 PM Generally speaking build dates of late 91 and later are the best of the lot. Bear in mind that reliability depends on the owner. Reliability also incompasses preventive and predictive maintenance programs on areas known to wear. These include suspension (front especially), fuel pumps, intake gaskets, crank vent valves, transmission and rear diff oil changes, brakes, coolant flush, brake fluid flush, hydraulic system, driveline, CV joints, etc. Or say a tie rod goes out. You don't replace just the worn component, you replace all 3. All 3 have had the same time in service, this way you only pay for one front end alignment. And you have now eliminated the possiblity another tie rod will give you problems, providing the person who installed it did a good job of installation. Buy as late a car as you can afford, you get more features than earlier cars. I think the replacement blocks that finally solved the problem use the same alloy as the V-12. Some blocks were replaced under warranty with blocks made with the same material as the defective blocks being replaced.:( I have a 1994 740, and I love it. But I replaced the block at great expense in spite of the warranty and had several expensive related problems not worth going into here. Mode 08-24-2001, 06:00 PM Did the V12 evolve much in the E32 generation? i.e. how similar was the MY88 750iL engine to MY94 750iL? |
