so this might be a shot in the dark, but i've had my car as long as i've been a member here, and i keep finding new things out about it... i'm guessing it was a repo, as it was sold at auction to the dealer i bought it from(camarena's auto sales in grand prairie), and its obviously had some things done to it at one point... it used to have a subwoofer in the trunk, the uninstall was a bit messy, clipped my seat latch cables, and left a lot of the wires in there... it also used to have bigger rims, maybe 18's or 19's, i don't know, but its got rolled fenders, so i think its a fair assumption... the most important thing i've found out about it, i found out today.... its got a limited slip diff, burns out both wheels, not just one... afaik none of the e46's came with a limited slip cept the m3, so i'm pretty happy about it. i'm not sure if it had any power mods, so i'm trying to find any info, and wondering if the previous owner wasn't a member here, as the limited slip upgrade would take quite the enthusiast to actually get, its pretty expensive... its alpine white of course, black leather interior(not leatherette)... again, i know its a shot in the dark, but i thought i'd try... i'm mainly trying to find info on the motor, as the bmw dealer had no info, because it hasn't seen them since 2002... the front hook for pulling the motor has some wear on it, like the motors been out, so i'd like to know if thats the case, and if so, what for... so, anyone know about this?

i already carfax'd it before i got it, it was a lease vehicle, then someone bought it after that, then it was sold at auction to the dealer i bought it from... carfax didn't tell me much of anything, and classic bmw knew even less.

i'm also thinking it might have been wrecked a little up front, though not in the carfax, as its got the clear lights package but the front lights are amber, and theres a small crumple or something on the drivers side fender right behind the corner light... and the radiator was only bolted on on one side when i got it, it was held on by wire on the other side, pretty rigged, pretty lame...


edit: and the rims all have pretty terrible curb rash, someone couldn't park lol... the spare is also pretty screwed up, and the tire completely missing the tread :( still need to replace that.

my zhp burnt both wheels, what you need to do is turn the wheel all the way in either direction and see if it'll "turn around" on the spot, if not...sorry dude, no LSD for you. But like I said, my ZHP also hooked both wheels but it didnt have LSD.

I don't know if its the stance of your car, or the way your driveway is angled, but your rear driver's wheel does not look right for some reason.

well, i return defeated, you are correct, it isn't lsd. went to an empty parking lot and let it rip, only one circle... it baffles my mind how an open diff will hook up on both wheels like that... i'd still like to know if anyone knows anything about my car, the motor bit in particular...

Were you at the RKC GTG last night, or was that another white coupe?

Check the vins on the motor and see if they match the chassis's vin.

Most open-diffed IRS will spin both wheels as long as you are going straight, on a uniform road surface, and the left/right weight balance is pretty equal.

isn't the vin on the back of the head? i've got no idea how i'd get anything back there to see it... i found the serial # and size on the side of the block above the oil pan, but that number didn't do me any good other than to tell me it still has a 3.0 in it...
and yeah, while this isn't my first open diff car, its my first open diff IRS car, the other IRS cars i had were rx7's, and they were all limited slip...

another odd/lame thing about my car, its got 323 rear brakes, which are only 10.8", where the 330's are about 12 3/4... so i got the new rotors but still need to replace the calipers and brackets to get the correct rear wheels on it...
