What kind of alarms do you guys have in your M3's. I'm getting ready to move to charleston and want an alarm for my car.

OEM Alarm ... anything else and you run the risk of electrical headaches due to BMW's multiplex wire harness setups. I installed an aftermarket alarm on my E36 and vowed to never do it again.

I had just bought the one that came with the car. The dealer can set up your red light underneath the rear view mirror. It cost me around $700 for a piece of mind.

I paid like $220 at my local dealer, and like $100 for the programming at dealer. OEM is the way to go

Well I have a few hook ups at the parts dept. but labor was just one hour charge. I forgot to mentioned I installed it myself. It's relly easy, car is pre-wired and everything is bolt on.

Whatever you do please don't get an aftermarket one, the are not compatible with the car's electrical system and a extra relays have to be used to work with the car's reverse polarity wires like on the door locking mechanism for example.

That is not true! E46's are actually relatively easy cars to do. Relays are not required for door locks if you tap into the correct wires @ the BCM module. Looks like you had a bad experience with an unexperienced shop.

You migh be right but I don't think I wanna tap onto any wires on my M3.
Yes I've had some experiences with shops in the past with a 97 328 I had.
You can't go wrong with OEM, it's a plug and play system. My opinion.

If you are concerned about warranty and want an easy DIY, OEM is the way to go. If you want functionality, added security and additional features such as remote start, window roll up/down, etc, then an aftermarket alarm + good installer is the way to go.

You're right, I totally agree but me personally don't like to mess with my M3's electrical system.
