Hey guys, thought I'd share a few pictures of my E24. I've been meaning to do this for awhile, but just now got around to it. She's not in tip top shape, but she's mine. I'm also wondering, the center section of the front bumper is a matte black color. Could this be a possible repair job or something?

What is the hose looking thing that is dangling in the last picture? It has a black over on it with a blue stripe down the side.

I was also thinking of putting some gauges, rally trip computer/odo, and a radar detector along the top of the dash. Thoughts?

Sorry for the URL link, but I can't post anything over 150kb

Sorry I cannot be of more technical assistance my friend. But do check out the website http://bigcoupe.com this is a great place for the sixer owners as well as this site mind you.
The six looks good my friend, and despite the wear-and-tear, it is still a Shark and worthy of your attention! Best of luck!!!

Thanks. I'm a huge fan of the bigcoupe site. Lots of great tech articles. I'm also fond of this particular forum. I must admit that my personal attachment is to the E30, but I'm very fond of my E24 as well. Watching the E30 forums isn't all that great sometimes, and I feel that most folks on the 6er forum here and at bigcoupe have a greater knowledge of the cars. I'm hoping to tackle some of the electrical quirks while I'm on summer break. It's not easy doing car stuff on campus when you lack the space and the tools...

Oooh, a euro -- nice. Please post a few more full car pics when you get a chance. Metallic blue sounds attractive.

The loose hose in the last pic should be the vacuum line for the interior air temperature sensor. The sensor is a diaphragm looking thing on the back of the kick panel just below the instrument cluster. There should be two wires connected to it as well. The air temperature sensor has a restrictor oriface inside.

The hose connects the air temp sensor to a hard line that passes through the fire wall. On the other side of the firewall another hose connects to the underside of the intake manifold. A hose disconnected inside the cabin causes a major vacuum leak downstream of the AFM (Air Flow Meter). The fuel injection system cannot compensate for this unmetered air so a lean running condition normally results.

Is the kick panel and air flow sensor still with the car? If so, plug the hose on the sensor nipple. If not, plug the hose with a golf tee or suitable screw. Also check the engine side for the companion hose. Many times that one seems to get disconnected also.

Also if it is operating you will hear a hissing sound from it. Although I new it was a vacuum hose I didn't know what for. This forum ROCKS.:alright

Well you already have the info on the cabin air sensor but the center section of your bumper should be chrome. I can not tell if it was just painted of if it has been replaced at some point with the factory shadow line part. The cars with the shadowline package would have this replacement part in primer. If you decide to straighten the bumper and need parts, let me know. I also may have a set of the euro headlights if you need replacements. I just redid my car and decided to replace the lenses with new ones. My old ones are clear and not fogged but not new.

Bottom center picture shows the interior temp sensor below the chime on the back of the kick panel laying face down:

The kickpanel is still attached, but I want to clarify something. Are you talking about a connector thats behind the dash between the bottom of the instrument cluster and the column or just beneath the column attached to the panel itself?

I know of two good places to get full car shots, and I'll post those ASAP.

A set of headlamps would be nice, especially since one of the low beams is cracked and a part of the glass is missing. I recently replaced the bulbs, but I'm still not happy with the lighting situation. Can't decide if I want to stick with OEM or go aftermarket HID/equiv. PM sent to alpinacsi

Also, 4th picture of the top row...what is this connector? Is this the cruise control actuator...or what's left of it?

Thanks,
Alex

The interiour temp sensor is the unlabled round module attached to the panel next to the chime module, This is what the hose plugs into.

Don't think the plug in the 4th pic has enough pins to be the cruse actuator. where does it lead?

Sorry about the earlier post...for some reason, CW6er's pics didn't show up on my browser. The plug I was talking about that I thought is the cruise actuator is an open plug that has one wire leading to the positive battery pole and the other end goes straight into the power dist. box. Not sure where it goes from there. All wires leading out of the box are in one bundle and each wire is solitary, so I'd have to tear into it to find out.

As for the plug, I suspect the PO has been mucking about and wired something in. I don't have it on my car (but it is an '87).

I figured that was probably the case, but wanted to be sure. There have been several I-don't-know's on this car, and I guess this is now one of them.

Thanks,
Alex

Alright, the hose does hiss when the car is running, and I've plugged it for now. I can't find the nipple for it, and my car doesn't seem to have the chime module or the temp sensor hookup on the backside of the kickpanel. I'm assuming that the the pic in the ETM is of the backside of the panel as it is laying in the floorboard. I'm wondering if the panel was replaced at some point because there is a hanging wire that looks like part of the chime module hookup. Here it is below for identification. (Wire colors are brown, blue, and green with yellow stripe in case it's too washed out to tell). I've also included a blurry pic (my apologies) of the back of my kickpanel. I took several more photos yesterday, and I'll have those up as soon as I can load them. Dial up is such a pain :mad

Thanks,
Alex

There is another panel that extends beyond this panel and may have cutouts for the pedals. It is made from a cardboard material and was probably riveted to the lower edge of the panel shown. I have spares of the temp sensor but I will have to check this weekend to see if I have the lower panel in decent condition.

The ETM shows that the colors match the wires for the temp sensor (also the chime only has 2 wires). I know dial up is a pain, but bite the bullet and down load your ETM in the middle of the night. http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm

I have a hard copy of the ETM that came with the car, but I've misplaced it somewhere around here.

Missing a lower-most panel makes sense of everything.
