View Full Version : '91 M5 Dinan 66,000 miles Alpine/Black
skateparks 05-21-2007, 12:04 PM Price Drop - $17,500
Simply an unreal car. If you know M5's you'll recognize that this is an absolutely stunning car. Maint records are COMPLETE and extensive. Dinan SII suspension, cam gear and chip (new HG, water pump, VC gasket, etc) all new with cam gear install. The list of new items on this car is seriously too long to type right now but I will add it later or email it to any interested parties.
Good-
Runs like a top. This is seriously the nicest running S38 i've ever heard
Suspension is TIGHT with all new bushings (including body mounts), control arms and thrust arms last year
Motor checked at 63,000 miles during HG replacement. Perfect results
New brakes/rotor
New Conti Sport tires 235/40/17
Excellent interior, everything works
Clear bra
New Fog lamps
All new fan belts
All new air filters, cabin as well
New fluids (redline where applicable) including power steering flush, diff, trans, brakes, and coolant.
To say the maintanance on this car was exemplary is an understatement. I've never seen anything like it.
BAD-
Paint is really good but here are some TINY chips and a scratch on the right rear door. it is under the moulding and can't be seen unless you get down and look.
Rear door panels need slight repair.
Drivers armrest has SLIGHT delam.
Interior needs $300 to be a perfect 10. I will gladly provide this complete for the right party.
Wheels are OK. Tstar centers are like new but the Mtechs are just good.
2 TINY chips in the windshield
Overall, this car is probably the nicest, best maintained driver (it's not a show car) I have ever seen. if you know these cars you know that it's all about the maintanance. I want more money than usual becasue I know that the $3-4k you normally need to run one of these cars for a year has already been done. the hedgasket/waterpump/valve cover/timing cover work alone was over $5000.
I want $17,500 for the car. A recent business opportunity has forced me to rethink my car collection but I am not motivated to sell. i've searched a long time for a car this nice and I'm not giving it away. email or PM me for more info.

skateparks 06-23-2007, 01:26 PM one more...
Meeyatch1 06-23-2007, 01:53 PM No, No, and no.
The owner of this one said it does....but I cannot imagine what you could possibly replace every year to have it cost that much just to keep it on the road.
By the way....to the seller of this one...you have a VERY nice car. Good luck with the sale, and finding her a new home.
skateparks 06-23-2007, 02:17 PM Let me rephrase- these cars CAN run alot of money to keep going. I've never had a problem car (yet) but they're not cheap. My original point was that a car with sketchy history or selling cheap can easily suck that much money out of your account. Every car? No. Every year? No. Likely? Probably.
Again, my point is that the PROBLEM AREAS have been addressed and documented on this car. If not performed, they would easily suck $3-4,000 out of your account. Even then, I've seen 180,000 mile cars that didn't have a problem and 50,000 mile money pits. It's rolling the dice!!

skateparks 07-29-2007, 07:08 AM This reply?
Well if your price hasn't dropped one bit from 17k since May, I think you can count me out. I understand you tell me this car is in immaculate condition, but even when I check it's value in KBB and NADA, I get from $8.5k (KBB Private Party) to $11.5k (NADA Retail) with the car in EXCELLENT condition and every option checked.
After what I've learned following my recent accident for which the other party was 100% liable, it doesn't matter how much YOU think your car is worth or how much money you have put into maintaining it or how often you've detailed it, but how much the "authorities" say it is. In the case of your stunning M5, I wouldn't get even a penny over $10000 from the insurance company if it was totalled, and that's something I just can't afford to risk at this point.
If you are looking to sell this car for what it's "worth," I'd offer you $11,000 right here and now. Otherwise I think you'll just have to keep waiting for that Mr. Right.
Thanks and best of luck.

Do some research, bruddah, you're making an ass of yourself. Oh, and thanks for the lecture, I'll take it under advisement.
NEXT!!!

shu328 07-29-2007, 11:06 AM Like I said, good luck. Don't get all up in a fuss because I offered you what you think is a low-ball for your jaw dropping e34...
It wasn't a lecture in any sense. Besides, you know what I said is 100% accurate.
I'm sure if you wait long enough and get enough publicity you'll find someone willing to fork out $17,500 (and drive to Maine...) for this beauty. After all, what you're asking is not at all that steep for such a rarity. I was just explaining that at this point I can't offer more than the car would be "worth." Clearly you don't have candidates lining up on your door step to fork over $18,000 for it if you haven't sold it in almost 3 months.
Just consider the scenario of having some jackass rear end you at a red light doing about 40. He is 100% liable, but the insurance company (if he even has one) is going to do everything in their power to total your car. So when they look up the value (even though it's an immaculate E34 M5 with 66,000 on the clock) there's no way they will give you anything over $10,000. Wouldn't that be a real shame that you can't even get back like 60% of what you paid for this gem, all because of some moron driver who wasn't paying attention. I guess you could always get everything fixed and apply for a reconstructed salvage title, but that's a huge pain in the ass and will cost you for sure.
If my point of view still sounds completely foreign and twisted, feel free to elaborate and tell me why. I'd love to hear your rebuttal
skateparks 07-29-2007, 08:22 PM 1.) "what I think is a low-ball offer for my jaw-dropping e34"? Go spend $11k on an M5 and report back in a few months.
2.) It wasn't a lecture in any sense. Besides, you know what I said is 100% accurate. Yes, it was and no it isn't. It is moronic to be quite frank. You are, in fact, lecturing me as the what I should sell the car for, which goes far beyond just making a simple offer.
Clearly you don't have candidates lining up on your door step I have already turned down two cash offers (yes, way up here in Maine) for $16,5oo
And lastly, the car has been appraised and is insured for $20,000 through two different companies. I would have to suspect that you know little to nothing about collectors automobiles. Can you find an accurate KBB listing for a ZR1 Corvette?
shu328 07-29-2007, 09:11 PM Enough. Good luck with your sale, sir -- it is an exceptionally nice car by the way.
Yet I'm still confused as to why you would say this:
Your limit is only a tiny bit too low...
skateparks 07-29-2007, 09:32 PM [but my limit is around to $9k
You said your linit is $9k, it's too low.
e24mpwr 07-29-2007, 09:45 PM If my point of view still sounds completely foreign and twisted, feel free to elaborate and tell me why.
Your point of view is completely foreign and twisted. Who the hell buys a car based on insurance values? I'd love to see the look on the faces of the people who you're trying to buy a house from when you argue your offer based on tax value.
If you can't afford the easily-worth-it $17.5K for this car, you shouldn't be making offers on it.
If I were in the market for a second car, I'd be on this. Frankly, it tempts me to dump my iX and cash in some stock options, but the divorce would cost me too much...
Yasir 07-29-2007, 11:53 PM .

Sir,
That's why you insure your cars for an agreed value ....Fuck KBB when it comes to ///M cars....If you can buy an equally nice car for $11,000 then go buy one or else move on...seems like this car is bit too pricey for you...

It's the only reason I even inquired about it. For all I knew, his "recent business opportunity" has pushed him to get rid of this car for some reason.

If you're just trying to snag it low, don't make up some BS justification. People respect you being straight. He would have still declined, but if you'd just said "Hey - I honestly don't have the $17K, but if you get pushed and have to get rid of it fast, I can scrape together $10K and I'd love to have it." he wouldn't probably have gotten his hackles up.
The car would have buried you anyway. Go buy a nice E36.
shu328 07-30-2007, 11:27 AM The car would have buried you anyway.
:lol
And how old are you? Just curious
e24mpwr 07-30-2007, 01:22 PM 38. Not sure what age has to do with anything. If you're looking to spend $9K on an ///M car, there isn't one you can buy that isn't going to drain your pockets (with the exception of an E36 M3-even then you're likely talking about a car that has a lot of miles, salvage or questionable history, etc.).
I've followed the ///M community for a long time, and I can't tell you how many times I've seen guys pick up cars on eBay, etc. and a year later complain bitterly how much maintaining an ///M car costs and have to sell it or park it. Spending $9K on one makes it highly likely you'll be in that camp unless you have means above the $9K price point and you're just sticking to your budget.
So - my advice wasn't sarcastic. For $9K you can get a fantastic E36 328i or with a little more investment you can get an E46 328i, both excellent and enjoyable cars that have "regular" service profiles vs. the higher-strung ///M cars.
(My apologies to Tom for hijacking his thread - For anyone interested in the car, this is the kind of ///M car you should look at, and any additional investment to get to the asking price is, I can assure you, money saved and then some in the long term based on the mileage and apparent condition of this car.)
skateparks 07-30-2007, 01:49 PM My apologies to Tom for hijacking his thread -
No worries. I was actually going to post the "now boys, if we can't play nicely" deal but decided that the free bumps and accolades on the car were worth it!!!
seriously, I've never been one to run away from a little debate, no one got hurt and all was in fun, I'm sure.
