View Full Version : dunlop sp sport fm901
LeftCoastBias 05-20-2007, 11:02 PM searched... couldn't find anything.
i have dunlop sp sport fm901 tires... which appear to be discontinued. i have maybe another 30-40k of life on them (yes... they're practically brand new).
but one of them has had some free "shaving" thanks to a fender that does double duty as a pizza slicer.
can any of the boys at tire rack track these down? i saw on vwvortex that when they first came out, you were having a special on them.
i need 215/40-17 (no, they're not on a bmw).
also, if i can't find one, how horrible would it be to run one tire that isn't the same as all the rest? i dont want to do that at all... but i may have no choice.
:help
Young Version 05-21-2007, 12:45 AM Mismatched tires aren't a big deal as long as the both fronts and both rears match. Try to find a tire with a similar compound to replace a pair with, then keep the good tire as a spare.
This is, of course, if you can't find one to replace it with.

damn, so i'd still need to buy at least two.
...well, i found two online retailers that still claim to have them... but you know how that goes. i'll contact them tomorrow.

I had the Fm-901.
I currently have the SP-8000.
The SP-8000's are a bit harder, but I do not think it would be a mismatch if you mixed them.
LeftCoastBias 05-21-2007, 04:29 PM how many miles did you get out of your fm901's?
mazdaboi 05-21-2007, 07:40 PM personally i thought those tires were $hit i had them on an old Protege i had. and the damn car slid right into the curb, even with a full racing suspension and dry pavement. no traction on DRY or WET pavement. And absolutly HORRIBLE on AUTOX. needless to say i scrapped the $500 worth of tires (took a total loss) and got rid of the car and moved onto the 323i. I wouldnt even put the FM901's on a metro.....

Not completely sure - somewhere between 20-25K.
I probably could have done a little better of I had rotated them more diligently, but not much.

you sure that wasn't the drivers fault, and not the tires?
i'm just imagining this horrible FWD protege with "full race suspension" on a public road with oversteering assisted by juvenile driving.
you dont have any videos of the wreck, do you?
blumatrix 05-22-2007, 01:47 AM how funny... i was just looking at these tires... here's what's available at tire rack:

95LuxM3 05-22-2007, 08:39 AM Get something else, dont waste your money because that's what you'll be doing with these tires. I currently have these on my M3 and they are pretty bad. Not a whole lot of grip dry or wet and I've had these for about 3 summers and backs are spent and fronts aren't far behind. Definately get something else. Just my .02

First off I did read the entire thread and in your first post you claimed you thought you had 30 - 40k left on these tires and that they were new. These tires will not last 40K btw. Second off, you stated you couldn't find this tire because you thought it was discountinued and asked about having two different types of tires on your car. So don't be a fckin smart ass when I was just trying to help you by giving you my personal opinion of some shitty tires that you and I both have.

your post still doesn't apply... considering i only have ONE tire that may need replacement.
not four.
talk about throwing away money.
Don Nguyen 05-23-2007, 02:35 AM If you're not anal about it, just run a different tire in the rear. Especially if the car doesn't have a LSD, then it doesn't matter too much that the tires are slightly mismatching.
Sure, it is ideal to run the same tires all around or atleast in pairs. I've run tires so many ways now, it doesn't bother me too much.

AGREE!! I had FM901 on my previous GTI and they sucks. Got cheated by its nice looking pattern, but the noisiest tire you can ever get.
Replace just one tire with other brand and finish their live.

I wasn't stating you should buy four tires....can you read? :banghead: Dude, man, I'm just saying, if you CANNOT find another fm901, then buy two DIFFERENT rear tires. Good god man! Man, this can't be too much of a bother for you as it looks like from your sig that you drive an e46 m3. And these tires are for a different car and are significantly smaller in size. I'm done. Good luck with the search for the fm's.
BMWBurnout875 05-25-2007, 10:40 AM I have the same tires on my E46 and i was looking to get new ones for these new rims that i am getting and i cna't find em anywhere.
