View Full Version : A little help from the bimmer gods please
detroit635csi 05-20-2007, 09:44 PM Hey guys, had a couple questions i wanted to throw out there to see if i can get some help or advice with.
1. I was going to ask about the speedo but i just saw another thread regarding the non-functioning speedo issue...
2. My 6 has a dinan cam, im looking to help the car get the most out of it. im planning on putting a BavAuto Chip in it, putting a less restricted exhaust on and getting new injectors, i was wondering how many #s the injectors should be, and what the stockers are.
3. Anyone have any other ideas on tastefull mods on the car and where to find them.
Im thinking about..
HD shocks
Short shift
Exhaust
Injectors
Chip
Oem M5 wheels (1999 m5 wheels)
i was also wondering if anyone has ever done a conversion to put m3 vader seats in a 6, and how hard this might be, i know where i can get some for not to much dough, just wondering what the install might be like, or for that matter what other seat options are out there, my fronts are worn and i kinda wanna replace them.
Well thanks for taking the time to read this, i guess its kinda long. Feel free to share your thoughts...as long as your not making fun of me..haha

xatlas0 05-20-2007, 10:14 PM Hoo-boy, I'll take this one at a time:
1. BavAuto chip is generally regarded as the worst of the chips. EAT or Conforti are much better. Secondly, you may want to consider that the car may have a Dinan chip in it too, to compensate for the cam. To make a significant difference, you could upgrade to a MAF, such as the Miller system.
2. Exhaust is pointless unless you get headers. Guy on the E28 board is making Stahl replicas for a reasonable price. Start there, and build an exhaust from that point.
3. Stock injectors are something around 18lbs. There is a very common upgrade to a 19lb injector using old Ford Mustang / Crown Vic parts. Supposed to smooth things out and get slightly better mileage if you keep your foot out of it.
4. There are a multitude of suspension threads, have a look over them.
5. UUC makes, in my opinion, the best SSK on the market. It is superb.
6. E39 M5 wheels will require hubcentric rings, as the E39 used a funky center bore size, larger than any other BMW by a few mm.
7. Vaders are expensive in good condition, as all the E36 guys want them for their 3XX -> M3 conversions. An aftermarket seat will be likely cheaper and more comfortable. I'm partial to Corbeaus myself, especially the GTS II. Making Vaders fit would be an interesting bit of fabrication work, as the seat rails are likely very different. You should be able to snag some E28 sport seats for a reasonable cost and they should be a bolt-in affair. I am not sure about that, so someone that knows, feel free to correct me if I am in error.
alpinacsi 05-21-2007, 09:48 AM Not much to add to what xatlas0 wrote.
As mentioned you may already have a chip installed. To verify, you may have to open the computer to see. A custom chip will probably be needed if you have had a cam change and plan to make upgrades.
If the factory exhaust is good. Be careful where you spend your money.
If you plan to use your rear seats, becareful with the seat upgrades you choose. I would think the vaders could be adapted but I do not know what is involved. Headroom needs to be considered when trying to adapt seats. Also the e28 seats do not have the quick tilt forward feature for rear seat entry.
detroit635csi 05-22-2007, 09:38 PM no chip in the ecu yet... what is the Miller system, might be a dumb question, ive heard a few people talking about it, but not quite sure where to go to get more info on it...where to get it ect...
im pretty sure my cat is bad, thats where the exhaust issue stems from, either that or the previous owner hollowed it out....none the less, i may go the way to replace the exhaust with the oem, far cheaper the aftermarket ones ive found. Been considering headers this just solidifies that. The seat thing is just something ive been thinking about lately nothing serious yet.
so yeah any info you might have on where to get the miller system or the other chips mentioned above would be helpfull..
Thanks for the responses guys, love this forum..
detroit635csi 05-22-2007, 09:39 PM ohh one more thing....are e34 wheels a direct fit for the 635 since they are 5x120 with a 20mm offset? thanks again
detroit635csi 05-22-2007, 09:51 PM scratch the questions about the miller system, just checked it out....i think im sold on getting that over the bavauto chip...is there anyone with expierience with the miller system? or has in on their car?

The wheels will fit, but they might need hub rings, I forget which model 5-series requires them.
e24mpwr 05-23-2007, 12:44 AM Vader seats would look awful IMHO, and they really aren't very comfortable. Would require custom brackets, and I'd wonder how safe they'd be. Corbeau are supposed to be awesome. E28 seats would limit rear seat access. I'd get E24 sport seats or recover the ones you have.
Good luck!
detroit635csi 05-23-2007, 01:15 PM i have the sport seats, but the leather looks like it has not been conditioned or taken care of since the 80's im going to try to use some of my stuff from griots to try and bring it back the best i can, but we'll see, to get new leather wrapped around my seats it would be like 600 a seat....so im thinking if i cant get the seats back to being nice and soft as well as looking decent than im going to go with the corbeau seats...thanks guys

My seats are in even worse shape. The driver's side actually has some duct tape on it, thanks to the idiot second owner. :mad
$600 a seat is actually pretty decent. The quotes I've consistently gotten are $800 per seat. But it's probably because I'm in the Bay Area. Do the Corbeau seats work if I have power seats? I'm thinking not, but it'd be nice to know. At any rate, my seats are Lotus, and I think I'd end up having to do a custom color if I go with any aftermarket seats, so I'll probably just pay to have my current ones completely recovered.
detroit635csi 05-24-2007, 12:26 AM someone put ducktape on a m6's seat because it had a tear in it? wow...that guy must be reeetarded.....i doubt corbeau's would be power seats.. anyone know what model of seat most people use for this application? and what type or rails to get?
