I am installing a SPA dual gauge in my car, and the switch that is part of the wiring harness did not come with a pushbutton to go on the end of the shaft. Where should I look for something like this? I bought the gauge from Bimmerworld, and they said that they don't come with the button.

Here is a pic of the kind of button cover I am looking for.

The gauges definitely come with the red cover... give SPA a call and I'm sure they'll send you one.

+1

I just got SPA gauges and both came with the red cover.

dangit, this bugs me. The instructions showed the red button and I called bimmerworld where I bought them from and they swore up and down that it wasn't included. :shifty

Is it really that hard to help a customer out and just call SPA and order in a red button for a guy instead of passing the buck . . .

Well lucky for you James posts here so when he finds out he's gonna bitch slap someone. :D

Kidding of course, I'm sure they'll make it right for you as customer service is a high priority for them.

yeah, that's the weird thing. I've always had great luck with them, but on this one kind of felt ignored. When I first received the gauge, the only thing in the box was the gauge housing. No wiring harness or anything. So they sent me a new one, but there wasn't a pushbutton in the thing. I asked for that and they said it didn't have one. Oh well.

I bought SPA gauges from Bimmerworld and they all came with that button. I would suggest you contact SPA directly and get it sorted out. I had some issues with a switch and they took care of it quickly.

radio shack also sells spa guage enclosures. fits two guages, two buttons and a power switch in a nice compact enclosure you can mount in many places on your track car.

seriously, it is their $4 plastic "project box". works great.

I contacted Bimmerworld today and they have one on its way. I tried calling SPA directly, but their offices were closed. Anyway, I'm sure I'll get the button pretty quick.

The one thing I've always wondered about your car is the way you mounted that 'guage enclosure' on a piece of square stock tubing? The rest of your interior is a nice looking race car, but then there's that on piece just sorta stickin' out.

It's a race car, function > form.

Sure, but look at the project box. It's clear at least a slight bit of effort went into making it look nice.

that pic was taken in the middle of a project. the angle stock supports the center of the dash, the end sticking out has been trimmed off a bit and my hotlap timer is mounted to it, directly under the spa box. ya can't see it sticking out anymore!

the spa box is actually bolted to the side of the center console stack, it isn't connected to the angle stock.

Ahh, I see. What I thought was a mount, is the cabling.

Do you actually use the OBC? I use mine to see that my brake lights aren't working, and that seems to be all its good for anymore.

yup, that is why i remounted it up high in the radio slot where i can see it. i have it programmed for just the functions i want to see so i can use the stalk push button to cycle through them.
dist - use for knowing how many more miles in the race
timer - use for bmwcca pit stop timing
mpg/dte - use a lot for fuel load calculations. what mpg am i getting on a given track track session and how far to fuel starvation. i gotta run min fuel possible for weight.
time - how long till the dang race starts!
