View Full Version : Carnage at TWS
turbo mike 05-20-2007, 07:20 PM I went to Texas World Speedway today to check out the facility. When I got there I noticed this wreckage. It happened before I arrived and I'm not sure what happened. I hope the driver is ok and I hate to see this happen to anyone.

Man, TWS is really claiming the DE victims lately.
Where is Martin with the story?
SG_M3 05-20-2007, 07:28 PM hmmm, wonder where it happened
turbo mike 05-20-2007, 07:29 PM A couple more pics:

hinzm3 05-20-2007, 07:30 PM damn that was a nice car, hope they are ok... Need the details turn 3?
Drifter 05-20-2007, 07:42 PM Nice wheels.... :D
To bad the car had to do some off roading.
frayed 05-20-2007, 10:23 PM I was there, but only Saturday. Eclou called me around noon to tell me about this wreck. He thought it had gone end over end on the inside of 7, though the pictures don't look like that.
There were apparently a lot of mechanicals today. One of the forumula fords went agricultural and wrecked the front suspension.
Snook and DD showed up with DD's Frankencar. It looked fantastic, in a hideous mad max sorta way.
skierman64 05-21-2007, 12:21 AM Looks like the roll bar did it's job

Looks to me like it didn't need to. Heavy damage is on the left front and then it seems it spun around and backed into something with damage to right rear. No roof damage so it didn't roll. At least that's what I see.
Carlos.
skierman64 05-21-2007, 02:11 AM Perhaps your right, what got me thinking it rolled was how the windshield was broken so high up and toward the middle of the car.

That car did roll. Not on its roof but on its a pillar and winshield frame. The only way you get those marks on the fender is by them being in contact with the ground.
Red Rocket 05-21-2007, 07:04 AM OK let me correct my self bu saying at the very least it was on its side.
robertm 05-21-2007, 08:13 AM Never ceases to amaze me that the one place on the track its very easy to get into trouble is the one place everyone fights it harder than they should. When you snap back across to the inside of 7 you are going to do that. Why do so many people fight it? I've drifted off the ouside a couple times when I couldn't get to the apex in the rain or soemone spilled something at the turn. Not much drama at all on the outside as long as you don't go waaay out there.
Anyway, was the guy alright? I'd have hated to be the passenger on that ride..
bmwgto 05-21-2007, 08:20 AM This SS is a special car and has been a significant project for its owner for years now. Its sickening to see it in this shape. Here's a second hand account from the owner / driver:
The car flipped in the air after sliding through the ruts in slope on the inside of turn 7. It didn't touch the ground until it went almost a full 360 and landed on the driver's side A-pillar. The top is clean. He wasn't hurt. Not a scratch. He thinks a tire bead gave way after the RR slid track off coming out of 7. The car shot across into the inside of turn tail first then caught a rut and went up into the air. He said it was
quite a ride.
So turn 7 claims another victim. That corner has to be one of the most awesome in all of motor racing - but trecherous it is.
txse46m3 05-21-2007, 08:28 AM He put 1 wheel off at the exit of 7. When he brought the wheel back on, the wheel was damaged and he lost control and went across track to the inside. In avoiding some terrain, he managed to get it up on two wheels dukes of hazard style and put it on it's side. It came back down on 4 wheels. Car is totalled, obviously, but the owner is fine. He's already looking for a new chassis to drop the drive train into.
hinzm3 05-21-2007, 08:39 AM Glad the driver walked away, thats all that matters!
gobuffs 05-21-2007, 09:19 AM I saw a 540 goes sideways off driver's left uphill after 7....NOT a good place to go off. the run off off the hil makes a fairly deep gully there. the chance of rolling there is good...the chance of really damaging yur car is an almost certainty.
MCain 05-21-2007, 09:23 AM I don't really have anything to add. I've known the driver for a couple of years and lusted after that car ever since I saw it. It was a really well set up car. The driver is a really nice person, and I just hate to see this happen to him. I hope he's back with a new ride soon.
Brodee 05-21-2007, 10:36 AM I ran a DE there a couple years back and a Fiero did this same thing on #7 right in front of me. Dropped a wheel off the outside, over corrected to get back on and slid to the inside. Ended up hopping it flat onto that little hill and totaled the suspension. Gave me a respect for that corner.
M3BimmerBilly 05-21-2007, 10:46 AM what a great SS...such a shame..hopeully hell be back out there again in an equally awesome car.

Damn, I was at that event. I seem to remember the Fiero having a small electrical fire also.
Good to hear that the driver's doing well. TWS has claimed a lot of victims, myself included...live and learn.
skierman64 05-21-2007, 07:38 PM Do any of you know if he's going to put a claim into his insurance? Just curious.
snook... 05-29-2007, 06:22 PM I was there, didn't get to see the car...whoa Martin, dude is pretty lucky.
reborn 03-05-2008, 05:00 PM Dang,
Just saw this thread. I was working corner 7 when it happened.
I was surprised he was ok, the ground is very hard over there!

Dude, shouldn't you be studying for a test and not necroposting in year old threads?
HighandFast 03-05-2008, 09:38 PM "Necroposting." Hahaha

LOL, as you know I decided to postpone that test in an effort to earn driving time with you on April 6th. That's how I roll! :)
I want you to instruct me on that day with my new tires if at all possible.
Edit: I do still have a 6 page paper due Friday morning that Im temporarily hiding from as well, though.
MCain 03-05-2008, 10:13 PM I'll be happy to ride with you, but I dunno how much help I'll be. If I don't see anywhere you can improve, I'll make something up that makes me sound like I know what I'm talking about.
Six pages? Didn't you tell me you want to go to law school? You should be able to sneeze and wind up with pages worth of bs on the tissues. Better yet, hire a high school kid to write it and tell your prof it was done by your para para paralegal.

Im sure you'll find more than enough to bust my balls about, especially on my first day with R-comps (Speaking of which, I may have trouble finding an instructer that'll actually ride with me.) :devillook Plus I havn't driven in what seems like forever.
Yeah, a 6 pg. paper is no big deal, but my lack of motivation to even start on it is. :D
