So I'm driving to my girlfriend's parents house from a local trip to REI and stop in the right lane of a 2 lane road. After the stop light the road starts going uphill pretty good and the right lane ends as a turn lane and you must merge left.
So I'm sitting at the light about 10 feet back from the line rolling lightly up to it. As I'm waiting for the light to change I hear some rumbling and exhaust from behind me. Instinctively I turn the DSC off (before looking in the rear view mirror :D) and look up to see behind me a good looking 03-04'ish Mustang Mach 1. Dark Silver, black center shaker hood and some sticker across the top of the windshield. Cool I thought, this might be fun!

Well I lightly roll up to the line as I see the cross signal go to yellow. The light turns green and all of a sudden (and for no reason at all...) the early 90's Chrysler van to my left billows a cloud of smoke and takes off, haha. Well I wasn't really going to accelerate that hard, but ok. So I jump on it while still in first, slightly chirp since I'm already rolling, immediately am in front of the van and chirp the tires going into 2nd. I look in the rear view mirror and the Mach 1 wasn't behind me anymore :shifty .
I get into the left lane with plenty of space still in the right. Just as the last bit of right lane available to merge starts to disappear, the Mach 1 flies around the van and jumps on my tail (my girlfriend who was behind the van at the light said he just about went off the road). At this time I had let off at about 65 and shifted to 5th. Well the Mach one jumps on my tail so I shift to 3rd. It was even for the first few seconds until I hit the better part of the power band, then slowly start to pull. I look back and saw his car rock forward a bit as he shifted then the nose roseand he slowly started to pull back on me. We ran up to about 100'ish (all up hill) and I start braking at the hill's crest because taking speeds any higher here was dangerous and I didn't want a ticket :rolleyes. We start slowing down and I stick my hand out the window and gave him a thumbs up. Good run, it was fun.
So we keep driving and he stays on my tail (65 in a 55 I had my fun already), and even when the highway goes to 35 entering a town (you don't even dare go 36 in this town, the cops are that bad...). We get to a stop light and as we start to take off ("normally") I can tell he expects/wants me to jump. He has ever since I started slowing down. I don't and just drive normally. He stays pretty close still wanting me to jump again. We go up the road a little bit and it goes from 34 to 45 and then to 55. Right before we get to the 55 sign I see him fall back a good bit and I get just what I expected...He jumps on it and flies around me on the left side. Cool? :confused He definately had an exhaust b/c it was loud as SH$T...I would have run again, but my girlfriend was right behind him in her Volvo riding his ass b/c she was pissed at him for riding my ass...I honestly thought she was mad at me, which is why I didn't jump. Wish I'd known she was pissed at him not me! Would have been fun...
Overall it was a VERY fun run, wish it had happened on a wide open highway with multiple lanes though! Once I got back to my girlfriend's parents I spoke with her brother who has had multiple Cobras. My girlfriend also mentioned that he had a "SCT" emblem on the back of his car with the Mach 1 stuff. My gf's brother thinks the car had anywhere from 310-330 RWHP. Stock at the crank the Mach 1's are rated at 320'ish, probably 290 RWHP. With an SCT tune, exhaust, intake and who knows what else it was a quick Mustang! Those pre-03 4.6L Cobra engines can make some power! I'm optimistically making 290-295RWHP with the Dinan upgrades...
I'm sure he would have taken me from a dig and up to maybe 120'ish due to his power, weight and gearing. That is what those cars are designed to do. Unless he was SC'ed and toying with me I was pretty happy as I thought I did hold my own considering the situation and would like to see what would happen into the triple digits! If you read this, then good run you have a very nice looking car and I totally respect the potential of those Mustangs! Keep it up!
