View Full Version : Hoosier A6/SSR leaking air?

Has anyone here experienced slow air leaks in these tires and/or wheels? All four of mine will slowly deflat over a 6 week period. Come to think of it, I briefly had Kumho Victos mounted and I don't remember them having leak issues.

put the tire under water... could be the stem / valve or a nail etc.

Yeah, the water tank is my next step, but there are no nails and four bad valve cores is hard to believe. I'll also give Hoosier a call next week and check with them.

Could be the stem itself and not the core. Are you using rubber or metal stems? Lay the tire / wheel on its side and pour water around the bead where it meets the wheel. On stiff sidewall race tires it is easy to damage the bead area while mounting.

One of my SSRs has been leaking since I bought, I don't DD the car though. I just make sure its filled before I take it out.. PITA.

All hoosiers leak as far as I know. I have to partially refill mine everytime before a race. Its not a big deal though, just a few pounds depending how long they've been sitting. I've never seen them lose air over the course of a track weekend though.

I autox'd and HPDE'd on A6 and R6 hoosiers with no air issues... :idk

Well, I just returned from having all four tanked, and there were NO leaks anywhere, whatsoever. It's a mystery. I'll just air 'em and run 'em.

Maybe a local competitor is taking air out? :)

Race tires don't hold air for long periods of time. I don't have first hand with your tires, but I would have expected this to happen. 6 weeks is a long time.

The Victoracers never seemed to lose air, but these are my first Hoosiers.

My current Victoracers do not leak, neither did my Hoosiers or Avons. Why would a race tire leak air over a standard tire? The inner liner is what holds the air in not the soft outer tread or even the underplies.

They are built lighter... as little rubber as possible. :dunno

Tires are sealed on the inside.. the inner liner is the lightest part of the tire...

All hoosiers leak as far as I know.

It may not be true with all of them, for whatever reason, but Hoosiers generally are known to lose a bit of air over time.

My GAC Hoosiers leaked over an extended period of time.

OK, I feel like a noob. Several experienced Hoodier users last weekend confirmed that they tend to leak over time.

my victoracers, v710's, and Advan AD07's have lost air on my SSR's too. No big deal, I just fill them back up.

I wish i could remember where i read this, maybe grassroots, but the article was saying that R-compounds lose are much faster then regular tires. Air actually comes through the rubber. Street tires are designed to reduce this "osmosis" type of effect, but aparently when designing r-comps, they ignore it because people typically use the tires for shorter periods, like one season only... I read it a long time ago, so i could be off.

Most of my Hoosiers will leak ... RA-1s are fine on the same wheels (K1s). Not sure why, but it's slow enough that it doesn't bother me.

It's true.
