View Full Version : 360 modena vs mroadster
Maxspeed 05-19-2007, 09:42 AM I was relaxing before my math exam driving my car (that's the best way to do so by the way). So just driving around town on a 3 lane road comes up a 360 modena, I looked up at the guy and just gave a little bit of gas. He looked at me like if I was a Lada (ferrari owner in general are snob compare to aston martin and lamborghini). Anyway after a few minutes standing by him (around 60mph) he decides to floor it so do I. He was about a car in front of me when I shifted in four and at about 100mph I stopped running ( he was 3-4 cars length in front of me).
I came to give him a thumbs up and he snobbed me ( just wish i had a twinscrew to gave him a lesson).
Anyway I had tons of fun hearing that 3.6 liters scream:D
Max
P.S: am french so don't bother telling my english sucks I know about it already.

Yeah, I did. It needed an engine rebuild/new engine. Burned oil like a mofo.

skierman64 05-19-2007, 11:50 PM Max, I've seen Ferraris running at Mont Tremblant get passed by plenty of "everyday" cars. I'm not sure if the old rich guys that can afford the cars can't drive period, or just don't know how to drive a Ferrari or maybe they're too scared to ding one up.
brentxzi 05-19-2007, 11:58 PM haha I see at least 2-3 everyday around where I live. On good days theres shitloads out. Quite amazing. I was next to an enzo yesterday and some older one wasn't sure which one it was sense it was dark out, a f430 today and also a 599 today.

A 599? I'm sorry, but those are extremely rare (800 per year) and were only recently introduced.

Sorry, but I refuse to bite. I am from SoCal. Go to even the richest parts of OC, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Holmby Hills, etc., and you might see an Enzo if you spend a few days there, and a few other Ferraris and Lambos, a lot of 996/997 Turbos, some GT2/GT3s, Maseratis, etc. But at this point, the 599 GTB is even rarer than the Enzo, because they've just been introduced and there is a 2-year+ waiting list, hence my calling BS on the OP. :)

I was in Orlando last week for business and there was a Ferrari dealer a few blocks from my hotel, so of course I had to stop in and drool. They had one 599 on the showroom floor along with 2 FXXs one of which was set up as a race car. A few 430s and a bunch of other stuff rounded out the showroom. It was quite nice.
I'll take a 430.

I'm in atlanta, and I've seen 2 599s here.
This is one at a local college show recently.

Nice, I'd take either, but the 599 GTB just brings an Italian exotic to a whole new level. 611 hp V12 = pure sekz. 0-60 in 3.3. A 430 barely does it in 4 flat. 1/4 mile is 11.2 for the 599. I know, I know, Ferraris are more than just straight-line times, but it certainly takes things to another dimension when you have that extra straight-line oomph. :buttrock

enzof355f430 05-20-2007, 12:51 PM Just for the record there is a 5+ year waiting list on the 599. And all FXXs are set up as a "real race" car. That is what they are....

Here are a few pics. of the showing i was invited too.

Well the two FXXs that I saw in Orlando weren't set up the same. The race one had numbers on it, full roll cage, fire extinguisher, data acquisition LCD dash, true racing seats, racing slicks on single lug nut wheels (not sure of the term) etc etc. The other FXX was much more pedestrian (it's all relative).

A few 430s sitting around? I highly doubt that. F430s don't just sit around on the floor, especially spiders. Ferrari of Orlando had a coupe there on the floor for less than a day and it was out the door as soon as it came in. My Father just bought a f430 from there last week and they didn't have a single 430 to sell. The dealer called a well known customer and asked to trade in his '06 for an '07 so we ended up getting real lucky.
I'm not trying to be an ass, you could very well be right, but them having a few F430s sitting around is HIGHLY unlikely.

Small world, I think I sat in your dad's 430, was it red with tan interior? I know that's the prototypical Ferrari colors but the salesman (2 weeks ago) said, we just sold this one. Anyhow, I didn't go around the showroom and take inventory, but I remember looking at more than one 430, perhaps another one was a customers. There were a lot of cars there both inside and outside including 3 or 4 race cars.
Barring winning the lottery, I will probably never be in the income bracket to be in the market for one, but it was a great way to kill some time after work on a business trip. Quite honestly, the 430 was the one car that "did it" for me. Not that the others weren't impressive, I was partial to the 430.
I think I'll stick to M3's. I've seen non-race Ferraris on the track multiple times at DEs, however I've never seen one being driven "fast". It's possible that most regular (non-race) owners are too nervous about putting their beautiful car into the fence to really "push it".

Ingenere 05-21-2007, 05:13 PM I am hearing alot of mis information about Ferrari(s), drivers, etc.
First off...not all of us are slow........although there is a fairly high poseur factor. I am an FCA chief driving instructor...and track days can be a bit light on traffic!
FXX's are not street legal. It is what I call "The Ultimate I love me Series". For $2M+, you get a non street legal Enzo, driver's kit, helmet, etc., 6 track days with factory support.......and you are now apart of the Ferrari 'test team'...where they will use your input on future cars. From the FXX's I've seen drive by customers, I'll stick with the real test team's input.
I do some Ferrari brokering, and there are some dealers who are buying 'stock', to keep on the floor.
There are several 599s in AZ and I am sure that there are plenty of them in the OC.

I didn't intend to imply that all Ferrari drivers or that the cars themselves are slow, it's just that the one's I've seen at BMW CCA Driver's Schools weren't being driven that fast. Although any Ferrari driver who has the kahunas to take that pricey of a car onto the track gets my respect, even if I'm passing them in my M3. I'm sure that the limits of the car in many cases are much, much higher than the limits of the drivers. I didn't know that the FXXs weren't street legal. That's some serious dough to spend on a track only car. WOW. To think, I'm struggling to convince myself to spend 15-30K on a track only car.
As far as Poseurs are concerned. I love looking at the back tires of all these guys riding sport bikes. You can see how far the bike has ever been leaned on that tire. Some of them never seem to get more than 1/3 of the way from the center to the edge, thus they've never really put it into a corner, the way those bikes are meant to be ridden. The true poseur tell tale sign.
Thanks for giving us the Ferrari input.
BTW, you have a large collection of cars. Do you have a favorite all-around car?

I joke about being the track events coordinator and chief instructor for the FCA, because in my region I can't get these guys to do anything but P.P.E. (Pose Park Eat). From time to time I'll get a couple of guys to the track, but that's it. It has always been my feeling that if you are going to buy a fast car......you had better learn how to drive.....and drive fast as often as possible!
The track only FXX is a joke........It is a silly program for guys that need to get stroked. If they really wanted to race, they could run a Porsche 997 GT3RSR in AMLS for over a season for the same price. Personally, I think they would have much more fun in a Radical with 200hp for 460K, than the FXX w/750+hp.....and no driving skills.
My cars have been used for everything from commuters, to hillclimbs and track days...and vacations. They are cars afterall.
I probably qualify as a poseur on the bike. My 916 hasn't been pushed too hard, as there aren't enough places where I can do the bike thing safely....so discretion is the better part of valor.
Best all 'rounder? Has to be the M3.....but if I don't need the back seats, its the SL55

Dino, Two more questions if you don't mind. How often do you get to run the 20 yr old indycar and how much maintenance does it take to keep that car running, assuming it has a real race engine in it? I always thought those engines were designed to go 500 miles between overhauls.

My car has a turbocharged 2.8 liter Cosworth V8. On full boost it makes 750hp. It is actually relatively cheap to run......if you run 1-2X month and shortshift between 10.5K and 11K, it goes about 5 years between rebuilds. Rebuilds are $2K-5K. So for a big time toy, it really isn't too bad.

seano666 05-22-2007, 05:45 PM A Ferrari dealership is still a car dealership, they always have cars sitting around for sale. It's terrible business if a customer comes in ready to buy and you don't have the car he wants. Ferraris start out sitting at the dealership just like any other car. Seen it happen.

Deuuuce 05-23-2007, 01:39 AM The Ferrari Challenge at Sears Point "featured" the FXXs. It was cool to see them, but they were not run very hard, unfortunately.
There were a decent number of 599s in the parking area. Great performance but I'm disappointed in the styling, personally. The 360 styling just seems timeless, although the 430 is a superior car.

biglar 05-23-2007, 02:31 AM i live on the border of newport beach and irvine. I see ferraris and lambos everyday. Come into my apartment complex, you can find some ferraris and lambos there too. My M3 is parked next to a 911, M6, M5, CLS55, and S4, and many other exotics.
Or you can simply go to the Car meet every saturday 730am at the ford motor company parking lot in irvine (gateway and irvine ctr dr). Last time i was there, there was a Veyron, Carrera GT, 4 Ford GTs, 2 Murcielagos, 2 F430s, spykers, lotus, astons, a million Porsches and BMWs and so on. Thats a weekly car MEET, not a show.
