View Full Version : Shock pressure variance
sausrigging 05-19-2007, 01:09 AM Prior to installing my new ast coilover set up I thought I would feel the pressure of these shocks, one feels dead and the other is very firm. Can someone explain why this might be?
Attached is a video, It should suffice.
thanks all

jdholder 05-19-2007, 02:42 AM Both the different milled length and the video test seem very odd to me.
Best to contact the vendor from whom you purchased them.
It appears you have one shock that has lost its gas pressure. I would imagine one needs an exchange or repair.
Sorry to be master of the obvious, but I think you know what to do already.
Agreed with jdholder. The AST is supposed to be a high-pressure mono-tube, which should extend on it's own. Sorry to say, but I think you got a dud. Hope you didn't find this out in the middle of an install.
Steve J. 05-19-2007, 09:55 AM Does ASt make thier own shocks, or are they a rebranded core damper from someone like koni?
Eitherway, you should never run a shock at the very end of its valving range (unless its a high end damper with provisions built into the internal design).
I wonder if there was damage done by turning it to full soft?
Eitherway, looks like you have to get a new shock from the vendor/mfg.
sausrigging 05-19-2007, 11:36 AM Thanks for taking the time to reply, If I new how to quote individual messages I would..

Thats how the shock behaved the moment it was pulled from the box, I only messed with the settings to try and 'bring the shock to life'.
I wouldnt be surprised If vorshlag answered a call on saturday, I will ring them now.

MoeMuny 05-19-2007, 12:07 PM Vorshlag's customer service is just awesome... if they dont answer the phone leave a message and they will call you back.... I had the same problem, talk to Brian and he will get it taken care of ASAP my new set of rears just arrived yesterday and are going in in about an hour... they should both rebound like the one does
Steve J. 05-19-2007, 01:28 PM How hard to did you turn knob once it stopped?
Did you force it to the full soft setting at all?
Did the shocks come shipped compressed?
I've seen and heard of some shocks failing from shippment, maybe these fall into that category.

There was no instance of overforce, the shock came in its rebounded position.
I already spoke with brian this morning, he is sending me a new one on monday.
