I just noticed it today, well tell a lie, when i first bought it two weeks ago.
I noticed a slight damp spot on the bottom of the tank,
but after mentioning this to my mechanic friend, he said he couldn't see any leaks.
But it obviously got a lot worse since then.
So i rushed round to another friend this afternoon, not exactly a qualified mechanic, but seems to know his stuff none the less.
The leak was easy to spot anyway, it was the pipe running around the back of the tank then disappearing up onto the tank.
My friend said this was just a part of the pipe that feeds back in to the tank, something about the pressure or something he said,
it leads to that small white tank above the rear wheel.
Anyways i proceeded to help first remove my bumper (Don't think this was necessary) But he also talked me into taking off my tow-bar, for weight reasons, suppose it won't hurt.
And when i get round to styling my baby i won't need it.
anyways we proceeded to hack-saw off the offending rusted up section of pipe, (i held the pipe steady for him at first, then thought if there was a spark or some contact, that's not how i wanted to die so i stood back..lol ) and splice in some gas pipe.
Yes i know its probably not the best way to do things, but right now I'm broke poor, so it saved me a few hundred pounds down the garage. Well what i wanted to ask you was, I saw some posts ( cant remember where now ! ) about some1 having the same problem, And they were concerned that some of shit
( i.e rusted metal having gone into the engine ) I'm thinking now that if my friend was right, and that pipe does not go to the engine then its all good, and he all so said that with the pressure of the petrol it would push any shit out, and it would not flow in to the pipe. I would be happy if any of you could confirm any of this for me. or off advice on a permanent solution.
how much chew is involved in taking the tank off to replace the pipes..............thanks for any help peeps......:help
