it was about 55 degrees out, no wind, and no one on the road. As i was leaving downtown i see a guy switching in and out of lanes trying to catch up to me. i figured he wanted to line up. I usually don't race (due to past driving record) and i wasn't about to race downtown or near campus-so i lead him out to the bypass for a nice empty road leading out of town.
We hit a light, he pipes me, and i get ready. I watch the yellow light, bring the RPM's up-turns green and take off. Both had a decent launch-RPM climb and i'm right in my powerband-i hit 2nd gear he jumps 1/4 of a CL, he shift and i we're back mirror to mirror, 3ed gear he starts to pull about 1-1 1/2 CLs.
Hit 4th and he's about 3 CL and pulling
My speed was about 115ish before i shut it down. After i caught up asked him if he was modded or stock-told me he had a cai and exhaust-said good race, sweet BMW- and we parted ways

dcroghan 05-18-2007, 03:33 PM ouch. more boost coming up.
DTM325 05-18-2007, 03:51 PM yeah...i know, more boost is on the way:devillook
ot-i raced my friends s50'd m3 (cai, sw and cat back), i walked him from 2nd gear on....don't m3's usually beat s2000's? or is it more intraweb bs?
Schneller Bayer 05-18-2007, 03:52 PM hm... I figured a car like yours would put down close to 250whp and beat the s2k.

maybe the s2k had more in it? A factory freak? M3's generally pull on s2ks.
DTM325 05-18-2007, 03:55 PM Good conditions for the non intercooled blower. I would think that if all 6 psi were there, with your mods, you would have been making considerably more than his likely 250 crank hp. Have you checked your boost? Any possible explanations?
Philip Bradley
i have a boost gauge-it's reading 6psi a little before 6200rpms. the vac is around 20 at idle and 10 at part throttle. Has a smotth idle, no CEL's...did a compression test and was all good across the board. Pre s/c it did 185-189whp and 163-167ft/lbs-so the motors pretty decent.
PathosRx 05-18-2007, 04:09 PM put in a 3.38 rear end and some lighter wheels ... :)
BRUNO 05-18-2007, 04:17 PM Do you have a aftermarket flywheel/clutch/ssk etc?
stowe9man 05-18-2007, 04:25 PM 189 whp isn't that far from stock M3 territory, so I would think you would be able to dust one with the SC. Are you sure your clutch isn't slipping or something?
IrishTarmac 05-18-2007, 04:31 PM This makes no sense, I beat one in my tacoma from a roll...
DTM325 05-18-2007, 04:31 PM has zf swap-AAltw fly and m3 clutch w/ AA ssk-
weight reduction-
car is lightly gutted (no rear seat, spaire, jack, ect...)
sparco seats
cf hood, deck lid
18" wheels 21lbs each
weight adder-
roll bar
e46 330 brake swap
Schneller Bayer 05-18-2007, 04:42 PM yeah, that guy must have a freak of a motor or more mods than he cares to admit... cause with your mods and pre sc dyno numbers and weight reduction, you should dust him.
GTP540 05-18-2007, 04:49 PM You got sprayed. He probably lit it up going from 3rd to 4th and walked you out after you staying with him through the first 3 gears.
Did you notice dark gray/black smoke from his exhaust or did you smell a burnt match smell?
If so ...you got sprayed.:confused
Just an Intake and exhaust on an S2000 will not wallk away that much if at all on you. In all reality is should be...
You> lightly modded E36 M3>S2000
DTM325 05-18-2007, 05:04 PM wasn't really paying attention if there was smoke, and i had my windows up so i didn't smell anything.
i'm kinda wondering if my clutch is the problem...but an stock m3 clutch with about 5,xxx miles should be fine.
savage217 05-18-2007, 06:06 PM What mods did you have when you dynoed at 189whp? Thats what those have stock at the crank.
DTM325 05-18-2007, 06:31 PM What mods did you have when you dynoed at 189whp? Thats what those have stock at the crank.
i thought they have 240 at the crank
i had intake, sw, headers, trackpipe, exhaust
opps i read that wrong
EDIT: i thought you were talking about the s2000 having 189 at the crank...i'm dumb
MRPOWER 05-18-2007, 06:51 PM i think the guy in the s2k wasnt given u all the info
WK446 05-18-2007, 07:16 PM Many of the S2000 owners change their final drive gearing as well, just like BMW owners. He also could have had a CF supercharger, especially considering how well he launched (e.g., Comptech)...
i thought they have 240 at the crank
i had intake, sw, headers, trackpipe, exhaust
Your stock would have 189 at the crank, so that's why it was questionable that you dynod at 189 pre-s/c. :shifty
DTM325 05-18-2007, 07:37 PM actually i said i did 185-189whp with 163-167 ft.lbs.
meaning i did more then 1 run. 5 to be exact. and if you want to get specific my air fuel was rich dropping into 12's towards the top.
but that's besides the point. i'm waiting to dyno again with the s/c. and it will be on the same dyno and close to same conditions.
edit:i re-read that post and thought the guy was talking about the s2000....
96m3SC 05-19-2007, 02:26 AM the S2 had to have more then that to walk on you.
probably some kind of ecu upgrade like hondata with all the bolt ons
SergEG 05-19-2007, 02:45 AM What are your numbers and weight?
210whp S2000 at say 2800lbs vs 240-250whp?
I would reason that the S2K was making similar power figures if not more to leave you like that
Spray or blower
DTM325 05-19-2007, 07:28 AM no numbers yet, still waiting to get to the dyno.
but i would hope to be in the 260+whp range.
i have no clue what the car weights, lighter thern stock, but not sure how much...
m3rdpower 05-19-2007, 07:50 AM gd run but i think u got sucked in, he prolly had a lil extra.
