A friend of mine secured (for $50) a factory OEM ballast and bulb from a junk yard from a 01 540. They work great.
He has a 03 530(like mine). He wants to know what else does he need to make his halogen to Xenon conversion. I guess he cannot install the D2S socket into a H7 base.
Ideas, pointers ... I have done using aftermarket kits.

I have been planning to do exactly the same thing.
Here's what he'll need to do:
- Modify the existing H7 holder and glue in the D2S bulb
- Make sure the 'return' line on the D2S bulb is facing down when installed
- He'll need the following parts for the ballast holders
Qty Description P/N
=== ========== =============
2 Support f xenon light control unit 63 12 6 907 422
1 Bracket,control unit, xenon light left 63 12 6 907 423
1 Bracket,control unit, xenon light right 63 12 6 907 424
- plug in and try them out
- depending on whether or not the install throws an error code, he may need resistor packs (from eurosportdesign.com for example)

If I can get my CAD skilz dusted off, I may design an actual H7 to D2S holder and have two made by www.redeyerpm.com (http://www.redeyerpm.com).
These ebay adapters do not work for this application, but they are okay for non-OEM aftermarket H7 kits.
Does not work with D2S bulb and OEM ballast:
192702
You still need some way to secure the bulb if you use this:
192703
Or, something like these D2S bulbs would work great, but the 'return bar' needs to facing down, or a dark line will be in the beam pattern:
192704

These prices seem too good to be true. Looks like they are giving you a whole headlight assembly with HID and ballast and 8K lamps mounted for $420(shipped).

Am I missing something here. I know thes are being shipped from Honk Kong, but I got my MTEC HID upgrade and they work great. They are plug and play.

Does anyone think anything different ... am I missing something.
