View Full Version : 1991 318is vs. 2003 olds alero
jake9685 05-17-2007, 07:33 PM I was on my way home when a white alero 2dr automatic flies by me. I normally dont race, but i had an 02 alero and always wondered if it was faster than the 318is. Anyways the car has 2 people in the back of the car and they both turned around and kept looking at me. We reach a light and I still have not bitten. The kids kept looking at me. I got even with him and we were off. we were doing 40mph, I dropped it into 3rd and pulled on him. I was a good car and 1/4 ahead of him when i shout down. The kid followed me to the local hangout and asked if i was boosted. I said no, and asked him what he was running. He opened the hood and I saw a v6. He then asked me to show him my engine. I openned up the hood and grinned as his jaw hit the ground as his friend says, "Yup thats a stock 4 banger."
List of things i have changed on the car.
-k and n panel filter
-new feul pump, filter, and hoses,
-new khumo sport tires
-new tranny
-bousch platinum 4 plugs.
-new wires
-complete tune up.
-Custum magnaflow exaust (sounds good REAL good.)
Plans in teh recent future.
-Mark D chip
-k and n air induction kit.
Spoolin' 05-17-2007, 07:37 PM I wish I could have seen that race.
jake9685 05-17-2007, 07:42 PM it was ok. Since I have done the new fuel stuff the car seems to have alot more bang than it used. Even after the tune up. The tires seem to make it feel more graceful.

PointMEby 05-17-2007, 08:18 PM could be possible..if it was a manuel one, counting on the fact the kid couldnt drive. If it was driven properly then nope..they're 3000lbs and have 170/200ftlbs. If you want to ask me how I know I had a 6 speed turbodiesel audi wagon in Germany (good bit faster then a 318) and was playing with an Alero on the Autobahn and I couldn't make any significant pulling until after 180k so I looked it up. Anywho this thread is hilarious
ashamans 05-17-2007, 08:23 PM alero i4 is faster than alero v6, there is a big diference
alero i4 plus manual is a lot more faster than the v6 as well
plain and simple gm v6 is crap and sucks

I dont see how the older model v6 Malibu's were just as slow as the 4 banger ones.

318ibmw 05-17-2007, 09:13 PM i got a 325is now, butmy car sittin in the garage is a 92 318I i got spanked about 2 cars by a 2.0 gti (95 i think) on a bad clutch i replaced the clutch and raced my friend again in the gti and i beat him by about 3 lengths, i couyldnt believe how much of a difference a slipping clutch to a brand new one made....that said i stil dont believe i coulda ever taken a 6 cylinder

Ok this I all agree with..yes these G.M motors are as awful as fat red necks at a water park. The one in Germany was a manuel, I just assumed it was the V6 model.. I guess not. On that note I'm flabbergasted..never thought I'd devote time from my life to discuss Alero's. Anywho, still don't see it beating a stock M42. Our Allroad in Germany could do 140+ and the Alero could hang on down low.

However... I bet they jump well. 4 banger is only 2800lbs
Nadroj 05-17-2007, 10:29 PM I dont understand how this is so unbelieveable....

318's slow down at full throttle in between turns 1 and 2 at Road Atlanta..enough said.
FatJohn325 05-17-2007, 11:21 PM alero's slow down going up driveways at full throttle
ohnoes 05-18-2007, 08:20 AM The only thing you will beat in your 318 is an old, arthritic lady walking across the street, who's just dropped her purse 10 yards back, realizes it, and goes back to fetch it, only to crack and severely strain her back muscles while bending over, and who emits a loud shriek as she does so, only to lie in the street, writhing in pain, and who finally manages to get up and finish her trek across the street, just in time to get her handbag snatched right from her arms.
ashamans 05-18-2007, 06:53 PM the manual is the thing here, engine lineup, i have had a acheiva, the alero replaced it so same car, with the ld9 quad 4 engine with the getrag 5 speed, the engine revs to 7k stock and is a close ratio hlsd tranny
