Hey guys,
My gas tank was bent while the car was getting lifted at a gas station. There is a small crease, but there is no leaking. Do you think it is OK to keep driving the car. Thanks.

I do, but don't wait until the gauge reads "0/1" or the light comes on before you fill up! I would definitely have them pay for a new tank though and get it done ASAP.

It is probably safe.
Depending on how much it was bent, your fuel sender inside may have bent or jammed. I'd certainly expect whomever was responsible to fix it, but baring that, I'd go through a tank of gas from full to empty to see if the gauge readings are normal.
You can remove the fuel pump from under the rear seat and possibly bend the tank back into shape without removing it from the car.

It is an old friend of mine and I would not feel right putting him in this situation (making his boss pay), especially after i asked him to use the lift. So, you are saying that you drive with your tank being bent and no problems? Thanks.

What would be some of the signs that things are not OK? Thanks.

Is the gas tank a designated lifting hardpoint on your car? If not, then somebody fucked up. Don't let this slide.

That tank is like a rubbery plastic. So its going to bend. Unless it punctured it then the tank itself should be fine. If it wasnt fine, you'd probably already notice by now. Like one guy up there ^ said, check the fuel sending unit. The plastics that hold the fuel pump are pretty brittle from being in the tank so long so check those. If its bent, you can work it back to place. As long as the car is starting and running properly, it should be ok. I would inspect just for the piece of mind.
I wouldn't even mess with it.
Doesn't sound like much of a dent.
-M, take a pic of your tank so we can see.
Of course, that would require the vehicle
to be lifted again.

Next time I lift the car I will take pics and post. However, I agree with you guys that since I haven't experienced any issues so far, I am going to hope that there shouldn't be any issues - I hope.:rolleyes
Thanks for your responses that made me feel a little better.
