Aloha peeps need :help!!
Reverse is almost gone. All week I smelt this weird smell coming out of engine bay. I didn't know what it was but today as I was reversing into my parking spot at home my car just backed in slowly. I rev but no bite the car just reverses really slow. Has anyone experienced this before. It it a pricey fix???
Please :help any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Any pink or brown puddles? Tranny fluid may be low. Unfortunately, there is no dipstick to check fluid level.

Shane,
Is your car an Automatic? Bryan is right on fluid level, unfortunately BMW insists that the automatics are good for life and have no dipstick and is never serviced by BMW. You need to jack your car up and keep it level and check from under the car and you must fill to the right level with the right fluid. Check your owners manual as to what fluid is being used and you need to get the same type.
If you are smelling something then your trans is leaking.

Hey Shane... I found this in the E46 page. Check out the first post on page 2, maybe that's the problem you have.

How many miles? If all forward gears seem okay, I've seen the same symptoms twice on a '00 before. Unfortunately, both cars ended up getting a rebuilt unit from BMW. Thing was, they had more than one in stock, so these were probably not isolated cases.
