Now I have no idea if this happens to all run flat tires, but I'm in the process of buying a used 2006 BMW 325i with 21,000 miles on it, and have noticed that the tires thump while driving down the road. It's equipped with the tire pressure monitoring system, so I haven't checked the tire pressure, and the tread life is still good, so I was wondering was this normal? Also, the car steers to the right while braking, which could be an alignment problem all on its own, but im not sure if the two problems correlate. Any ideas?

If they are Bridgestone Turanzas , they are most likely shot and you need to get the Contis as replacements

Cupping will just be really loud. "Thumping" sounds like the tires have a flat spot.

True, but the known crappy Turanza perfomance will still be present and at 21,000 miles they probably need to be replced anyway.
Just get new Contis, a a wheel alignment and all should be OK

Well I'm going back to the dealer today and I've already called and complained about the "thumping" and they are checking the alignment. I'm not sure on the tires but the "bump" on the side wall that show tread life are still there, and a mechanic said that they are fine.

I doubt at 21000 miles that if the turanzas are still on the car, are fine. They are lucky to last 10000 miles. The alignment is fine nor would it cause a thumping noise. I can guarantee you that its the tires. If they are gonna replace them tell them you want conti's

Well I bought the car, and I got used to the noise because hey, it's a BMW. Ill just chop the noise up to the run flats and low-profire tires...

Contis are just as bad. My dealer has a pit full of Potenzas AND Contis that are being returned to their respective manuf. for warranty claims.
