Hello, I'm new to this forum and have a newbie question for you. I'm really interested in getting a '01 7 series with steptronic and I have read a couple of threads that make it sound like that option is only available in the 740i and 750iL models, but when I have looked at pictures of the 740iL I have seen a little switch by the shifter with an A at the top and a M at the bottom as if it was there to switch the car from an auto tranny to a manual one. Does anyone know what it is actually for? The reason for me wanting the steptronic is to be able to do the M3 paddle wheel mod so any info you may have would be a great help. Thanks.

feature you want is found ONLY in the short wheelbase 740 (aka SHORTY Sport)....see pic below. THe LONG wheelbase 7 (740iL) does not have a TRUE steptronic and has the A-M switch you've seen
