Thanks anyways Kromdom psjr 05-17-2007, 01:58 PM On the E38, you can roll the windows down by holding the remote unlock button or holding the key in the lock, but (this is really annoying, IMO) you can only roll them up when arming by holding the key in the lock, and NOT by holding the lock button on the remote. Grrr. Qsilver7 05-17-2007, 02:21 PM BTW, the USA is one of those markets that BMW declined to offer the "conveniene closing" feature. We do get the "convenience opening" feature as has been stated. Again, you get the ability to roll up the windows using the buttons on the master key based on country of origin...the USA happens to be one of the countries that has to manually stick the key into the driver's door lock cylinder to do this. :shifty lcbrevard 05-21-2007, 05:49 PM Can you say "product liability lawyers"? What if junior is poking his head out the window (say on the opposite side of the car) when you remotely roll them up? I'm surprised they haven't disabled the full auto-up feature on the windows in the US. Sigh... ucbearcats27 05-21-2007, 07:00 PM I'm surprised they haven't disabled the full auto-up feature on the windows in the US. They automatically go back down if there is something in the way, at least mine did when I tried it a while ago. prezkot 05-22-2007, 01:33 PM Qsilver7, Do you know if the convinience closing feature can be added to the existing alarm? psjr 05-22-2007, 02:50 PM Qsilver7, Do you know if the convinience closing feature can be added to the existing alarm? +11111 This would be an awesome feature to have.:D Qsilver7 05-22-2007, 05:14 PM +11111 This would be an awesome feature to have.:D Qsilver7, Do you know if the convinience closing feature can be added to the existing alarm? It is possible but it requires having the info/knowledge to go around the system. There was someone at Bimmerfest this year (out on the west coast) that had the ability to go re-program the US imported cars and activate the "convenience close" feature...for $80 bucks a pop! I can't say for sure if the Dealers can do it...I know that most will tell you catagorically...NO...but there is ALWAYS a way to get around anything. It's just finding who can do it or the software that can allow you to do it. Here's a link to a earlier thread this year that discusses the same topic (and the guy at Bimmerfest): http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showpost.php?p=8605300&postcount=2 firedancer740il 05-22-2007, 10:13 PM i have a 97 740 il obviously an e38 only hadit about a year so if i continuosly hold the lock button on my key it will automatically roll my windows down while i am approachingmy car?? Perhaps it would just be easier to reprint the informatin from the owners manual. The "Convenience Opening Mode" can be done two ways...using the door lock cylinder manually...or using the keyless buttons on your key. The images below are from the 1997 owners manual...so obviously the key will look differently than the newer "diamond shaped" key...but those keys still perform the same function... Keyless Convenience Opening Mode ONLY rolls the windows down & opens the Moon/Sun roof: (see image on the left) (Manual) Convenience "Operating" Mode will open AND close the windows & Moon/Sun roofs: (see image on the right) kromdom 05-22-2007, 11:14 PM holy belated discovery, BATMAN! Once again, I am humbled and in awe of your wisdom, Q....I have this feature on my '01 (duh!!). Not too long ago, one of your psots helped me discover that I have power folding mirrors on my car! Now where is that gad dang owner's manual lcbrevard 05-28-2007, 05:14 PM They automatically go back down if there is something in the way, at least mine did when I tried it a while ago. I actually knew that because a friend (who thought auto-up was a really bad idea) put a pencil in the way. I suggested he try again with his fingers but he declined! I use the full auto-up feature mostly after I have rolled down all the windows with the remote as I walk up to the car on a sunny day. Once the car has aired out a bit I tap each of the "up" buttons to let them automatically close. |
