Let's see, my ride is dropped and rolling on 19's. Where is a place to get a saftey check that will not require a recon? :mad

My drop is not obnoxious, and could pass for stock... except for the rims. I have dealt with this issue with my other cars, but they were modded to a point that a recon was obviously needed.

Is it just better to get the darn recon, (waiting in line, dealing with those inspectors...). Those of you that have modded, what was your process?

Also my projectors are coming in any day. Anyone have issues with aftermarket HID's and angel eyes? If that is the case I just may hold off on the installation.:(

Ask 93M3SDN :D

Wouldn't it be better to stay on the legal side in case you get pulled over without the recon?

Who can we petition to abolish Safety Check anyway? If anyone has seen it accomplish anything, let me know. (Don't reply if you work for the state Treasury :confused)

I've never been bothered with my angel eyes. i just don't use them in high police traffic areas like waiks

I have 19s but my car had the option to come with 18s so I just say that my car doesn't require recon. I'll be dropping it soon and then I might try for recon.

So many BMWs come stock with angel eyes; how would they know which models did and which didn't?

I've got aftermarket HIDs & angel eyes, and like Dirsh, have not had any issues caused by having them installed.

(Of course, if you hang around McCully Shopping Center after 5pm, you'd think mazdas, lexuses, fords and hondas came with angel eyes too.)

with safety inspections.

I always wind up with some uber nazi that won't pass my bone stock car for something stupid like a hairline crack in a tail light or "oscillations" in the suspension.

I now go to a sympathetic shop that takes my Jackson and gives me the stickers.

Since you are in Wahiawa, try the old gas station turned repair shop on California right before Subway. I am also dropped pretty low and on 19's the only thing they made me do was put my amber corners back in. Good luck

Abolish Recon instead of safety inspections

Thank you all for the responses.:D

I just need to get it before I leave on my business trip, expires this month. I will need to get a recon, I had to do it for my other cars. Its just this time I don't have too much free time on my hand and getting this accomplished will be a huge headache.

As PCP JR said, I will have peace of mind if I am legal beagle. I guess this is the price to pay if I want to play.

Again, thank you all.

P.S. and +1 on recon abolishment. Not safety check, but the recon.

Yeah, Recon IS completely useless.

When some mofo lifted pickup crushes a car and the bumper goes over the passengers' heads, maybe they'll sue the C&C for allowing it to get a Recon sticker and still operate on the highways.

You know why peeps have those huge lifted trucks? That's the only way they can raise their iq. :D

No need...mine expired last November and I just got a new one yesterday. Wife's expired last August and she just got one last week.

I like to live life dangerously :shifty

But seriously, why do we have it and not the other islands???

You mean safety or recon? Safety check is required on all islands; recon is required only in cities with a certain population amount (I think it was 500k?).

I also wonder; why do we need those dorky Safety Check stickers on the bumper?

Since you can't get registered without a valid safety check, just make the reg sticker stand for the safety check too. Gee. How hard is that. :confused

that's just something that you can forget to do and get pulled over for revenue.

i'd go for that.

i always seem to forget to renew my safety until days before/after it expires.

with the new way, the reg renewal in the mail would also be my reminder to do the safety.

Feh, the concept is outdated. I can see it after a car reaches a certain age but otherwise.:shifty At least the dealers can do a sticker good for 2 years on a new car.

And if you have tint you pay more.:bash

Back in the 80s, you needed a safety every 6 months if your car was over 10 years old.

KingRat

Wow, every 6 months.

Well I am not against safety check. Reason for this is I go to Oklahoma City often for training and there they do not have safety checks. You should see some of the pieces of work that hobble along those roads there! Talk about a saftey hazard.

Seen at least 4 cars... no hood.

1 car with a plywood door ( not even A/C grade ) with duct tape trim

1 car with no doors

2 with no windshield

And best yet, one car at the Super WalMart parking lot that lost its rear driver wheel first, then a few seconds later the front passenger wheel. The two wheels were rolling faster than him past the main entrance. :stickoutt

So saftey checks are a good thing, it helps a little to prevent alot of the latter. But recon on the other hand....:conf

wish I still had my hook up for my safety check when I get back to the island, both cars are expired :(

Hmm... I JUST got my safety check like 2 hours ago.
I got mine from BME along with a 4 wheel alignment.
BME was kinda strict though.
The only thing my car really had a problem with were the painted reflectors.
Now I gotta get another set of reflectors painted since I cracked the painted ones while removing them :(

recon:

are they strict on the bounce test?

Will i be able to pass with bilsteins wiht h&r race?
also, are they strict on HIDs?

The Beastmaster
05-19-2007, 07:46 AM
I think your car has to have at least 1" up and down of suspension travel. However, the HIDs will most likely kill you.
