View Full Version : ASA wheels w/ General UHP tire combo? ok?
brian711rs 05-16-2007, 04:04 PM Hi, I have 1993 525i that has original wheels. I was looking to upgrade my wheels to the ASA AR1 17" wheels w/ General exclaim 235/45/17 UHP tires.
Are these good wheels/tires? and w/ an offset of 18 will they look/fit ok?
I have lowered the car 1.3" fr and 1" rr and this should not rub or look funny right? I have read about cheaper wheels not really fitting right, thx all Brian.
Any pics of an e34 w/ similar wheels is greatly appreciated.
jamesthebikeguy 05-16-2007, 05:11 PM The wheels should be ok, but General tires??????????????????????????
Some real rubber would be way better check out ur kuhmo escta tire, or any of the toyo proxie's stay away from crappy tires

+1
I use Kumho ecsta asx's for daily use on my 18's. Very cheap, and work really well. Potenza S0-3's at the track. Not very cheap, but amazing tire.
Jontran8 05-16-2007, 05:43 PM I've been emailing Jim at tirerack and he keeps recommending the General UHP tires over Kumho's. Why would that not be a good route?

Some real rubber would be way better check out ur kuhmo escta tire, or any of the toyo proxie's stay away from crappy tiresThe General Exclaim UHP is actually a very popular tire and has gotten pretty good reviews for a street UHP tires. Checkout TireRack's test or their user reviews. It's also pretty popular over on M3Forum.
I personally haven't tried them, and I probably wouldn't on a car that sees the track, but they're certainly more than adequate for street driving. In fact, they're probably better than the Proxies ZF4's mentioned in your sig....
JohnnyWash1 05-16-2007, 07:18 PM I LOVED my General UHPs. They were grippy, quiet, and relatively nice riding. Not suited for serious track use, but for street---perfect.

I don't see anything wrong with General Exclaim UHP. In fact, they've got pretty good reviews and I think they would be great for the street. From the tests that I've seen, they're very well-rounded and satisfaction rating is very high. And, based on my research, they're among the lightest tires on the market contributing to less unsprung weight. They can be 4lbs to 5lbs lighter compared to some tires of the same size. An additional 5lbs in unsprung weight per wheel/tire can be felt in a car, specially in an underpowered car.
Jason5driver 05-18-2007, 04:20 AM +1 for the General Exclaim UHP tires!!!
That's what I am getting!!!
I have read reviews on Tire Rack comparing Michelins PS2's, and the Generals out performed according to the reviews...
I am sold!!
Tbone325 05-18-2007, 03:37 PM FWIW I have General UHPs on my 17x8s (E36 325) and they are pretty awesom. Quite and smooth, and they actually handle pretty damn well.
Whiplash 05-18-2007, 04:15 PM You can add another vote for the General UHP's. I definitely prefer these over the Kuhmo's! I had the same initial reaction when somebody mentioned "Generals ??" but after talking to the guys at Tire Rack and reading the reviews, I decided to give them a shot. Never used them on the track (and probably never would) but they are an excellent street tire.
m3bmwjohn 05-19-2007, 12:35 AM Just purchased a set of General UHPs F245/35/19 and R275/30/19 i am very pleased with this tire very quiet and grippy 380 tread wear. Great tire for the price and really good ratings from Tire Rack these are perfect for the street now the track would be a whole other story.
