I've been approaching an E24 purchase for a couple of years now, not a specific one - money, space and time being the big deterrents - but anyway . . .

Really want the euro look - what's involved in doing a euro bumper conversion - say on an 84 as shown . . .

someone can get more specific, but it's a real PITA. of course you need the bumpers, surrounds, etc.

Then there's the moulding mounts to think about, I believe that in addition to drilling holes for the new bumper moulding mounts, there is some filler body work to be performed as well.

Sorry I can't help much, but I don't believe many folks have done it, due to the Complexities involved.

If you don't have a car yet and don't have the bumpers; then just buy a euro car. To get the bumpers and all of the other associated parts, you may have to buy a car anyway. I have done the conversion more than once and the cost and effort is more that most are willing to spend considering the price that a nice euro can be purchased for. I do not know your abilities but painting, welding and sheet metal fabrication will be required for the rear wrap around bumper. The older style euro bumper will be easier. The front is not as difficult but is still not a bolt-on job.

My advise would be to keep looking for what you want.

Well now I wish I'd asked a lot sooner.

Thanks!!!

i have an '84 and i'm looking to update my bumpers as well, mostly the front more so than the rear, however, would it be easier just to go with the 87+ US style bumpers?

Sure, if you can find the parts. Another option is to compress your existing bumper shocks to tuck your bumper back and then paint your existing bumper ends body color.

I was wondering about this process too.

I have a '81 Euro e24 that I can get dirt cheap to rape for parts, but if it's a long and drawn out ordeal.. it's prolly not worth it.

What about M6 front bumpers for USA models? How about the rear? Do they just bolt on to my car?

What is considered “older style euro bumpers”? The rear bumper on my '79 635 euro is the type that does not extent all the way to the rear wheel arch, just around the “corner”.

The "older" style is on the '77-'82 Euro cars with a "cap bumper" on the rear. From '83 on, the rear euro bumpers matched the styling of the front.

I agree w/ alpinacsi - if you are looking for a car and like Euro bumpers, don't go for a conversion, just buy a Euro (or an already-converted car).
