I thinking of doing the same thing. Would love to see what it looks like. Looks great on other bimmers why not a seven.
When you say paint you mean match body color?
Or, Do you mean paint black to forget about wax marks?

are yout alking about the side skirts and rear and front lip mouldings that are black instead of the color of the car. I went in and talked to a guy about getting these painted and he said the paint would start chipping off so its not worth it.

Well, I've done this, and although the paint wasn't a perfect match, I think it made a HUGE difference in the overall look of the car. It looks about ten years newer now.

As for the paint not adhering: I don't know why that would be. I did the same thing on the 325is I used to own, and it held up fine for two years. I painted the rockers and bumpers on my seven about three months ago, and so far so good (in spite of a rough winter here in the northeast).

Here's a shot of my car after the painting:

so your paint was fine. I took mine into an autoshop asking about painting the black mouldings and they were like ya the paint will chiop and fall off its not worth it.

If you tink about it, a black BMW is the same effect... It is black with black trim.

Looks good! Why did you leave the jack points black though? They couldn't paint them or was that a choice?

I was told the same thing at three different body shops. It looks good though.. I think I'm just gonna tell them yea, yea, yea just shuddup and do it ;) Even if I have to respray it every six months that doesn't seem so bad. I can't imagine it'd be more than a few hundred.

I wanna get the bottom skirts and the waistline band body colored.

Well, it looks good. Get those jack holes painted quik. I may give this a try until I can afford some more side skirts.

Now all you need is clear side markers and Angel eyes and you will have completed your 2001 OEM facelift.

The guy I bought my car from had the side skirts painted, and I think it really adds to the car's appearance. Not as much as the pictures above though since my car is dark green. Because the color is so dark, it's not as dramatic as djb25's, but I still like it. The color match was perfect, and I don't see any chipping or peeling, and it has been on there for a couple years now.

djb - your car looks great. The wheels and panels really made a huge difference. How much did the paint cost you?
You should get the front windows tinted too and your car will be HOT.

why didnt you paint the jack holes?

why didnt you paint the jack holes?

I didn't paint the jack holes because I'm an idiot and forgot!

As for the paint, I used basecoat/clearcoat. So far it is holding up fantastically, no problems what-so-ever. Of course, like I said, it held up for two years on my last BMW.

However, as for the body mouldings (as the initiator of this thread had actually been asking about), I don't see why they wouldn't hold paint as well. I would use a primer made specifically for plastic body parts.

Although, I'm by no means a professional at this stuff, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
